How do you get that flair that the faulds attach to? To be specific, do I hammer the inside with the outside surface against my stake? Or do I do it the opposite way? I have a RR spike converted to a stake by Hal, will this stake work for making the edge flair?
Thanks,
Christopher

I dunno if you've seen it already, but check out this links page: m The top 5 should be the most useful. I know they are more gypsy-fied designs, but it's a good start. Especially since your model looks a bit like the Paolo and Ilsanais's Bowtop. Lots of good ideas you can incorporate if nothing els...

Schreiber, as far as authentic, or what works, I'd like both. There is a harness (another LEGO harness) burning a hole in my brain. I want someone to look at it and see a historical influence, but it's not going to be wholly accurate to any period. I want to do 14thC style rerebraces with floating s...

Nope, no welding. Not an option, not going to consider it. Learning how to do it by cutting a dart won't really help me learn the skills I want to learn. I wasn't really planning on doing it as a first raising project, I just need to know how it works. Only looking for period solutions. I'm probably...

Floating Elbows Attachment
I've been looking around at some threads on almains, and ran across a discussion about rerebraces disappearing in the SCA. The poster (don't remember who) was talking about a tendency to secure shoulder defences directly to the elbows. Now, I've seen some banter and pics about some German export arm...

That's a beautiful piece. It's a bit fantasy. But I'm assuming your persona is Norse, so it works nice. Gorgeous colors. I also like the way you attached the shoulders. How well can you bend in that? It looks like it goes down a little low on the torso. I'd be worried about it riding up into my chin...

I've never raised a helmet before. I'm having trouble visualizing. The breastplate doesn't look like it has any bowl-shaped lines to me. The problem is, I'm having a hard time mentally seeing it go from kinda globose to the point. Does anyone have any pics or know of any video of it being done? So w...

Making the Point on A B&W Cuirass
How does one go about making the point on a Landskecht breastplate without a weld? Like this one. Any help is appreciated.

Hey, Tim. Killer project, hope you get a way to make it work. I Googled it, and one of the images that popped up was this: m Maybe you could come up with a way to weave the side panels. That would reduce weight. If you put up canvas or something on the inside like wall paper, you would get your opaq...

Leather Helms (X-Posted from Design&Construction)
I was searching for other things this morning and ran across a thread talkling about a 5 layer thick leather helm that was jokingly mentioned to be bulletproof. I believe Egfroth posted about it. Maybe Vendel era. Now, I have tried searching "leather", "helms", and "leather ...

Well, we have the written documentation of the leather, and we have these defenses on effigies that just don't quite look like regular metal defences. So it's sort of an educated guess, I'd imagine. Maybe they are all metal, and there is no leather in effigies. There are guys here who could probably...

Working with leather, you just can't really work at these temps....frozen leather just doesn't shape after it sets! lol. It was a bit below zero here last week. That's farenheight. Medieval Leather Armour
When did leather armour start hitting the battlefield in the Middle Ages? I know about some of the 14thC stuff, but it seems like I ran across something talking about it in the 13thC too. Around what decade would it have had vambraces, rerebraces, schyns, and cuirass? also, did they make cuisses in ...

I'm not a metal pounder, so I'm curious about something. It seems that hot working is an easier way to get metal to behave during most poundung activities...why do so many people like to work it cold whenever possible? Not being snarky, just am genuinely curious since I will be pounding the steel on...

Not moving to Richmond, I just don't want to go any farther than Richmond if I don't have to. Probably be around the Shenandoah Valley. MASHS may be a bit far too. Especially if you figure in the DC traffic. So far it looks like I'll have little choice but to do the 2 or 3 hours to VA Beach. Oh well...

Sources for English/Burgundian Gothic Armours
What are the best sources for pics of these types of harness? They neeed to be really pic heavy. I love german Gothic, but I like the simpler variations of it. Not that I don't like stuff like the Sigmund Tyrrol, but just something about the crispness of the Burgundian and English Gothics. Maybe it'...

Any Western Martial Arts Groups in VA? (Non-SCA)
I was wondering if there are any orginizations like AEMMA or Schola St. George in Virgina. There's an HACA study group, but I was hoping to find more. Preferably something with a heavy presence, or even based in Va. Northern Va would be best. Something that has respect in the Medieval community. I k...
