I think your work is progressing great! Love that etching you did. Here's my Crusader kit that's still a work in progress: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v174/daCraw/judeoct-1.jpg I did a little brass etching on the brass pieces supplied in the Zweihammer helmet kit and add a couple of other piec...

Don't see enough JoP's in the world. Good on you for going with a less-used armour type! Oooh, bamboo? How is it for wicking and cooling? More like cotton or more like synthetics? Shell is canvas weight cotton with cotton/bamboo batting. Plates are ABS plastic. It was a prototype so I tried to keep ...

Wow, I didn't anticipate so much help in such a short span. Thanks, everyone! As far as a trainer, if I could afford one of those, I wouldn't need to be asking how to use next to no equipment to get stronger...lol Thanks for all the links. I'll be sifting thru them. And thanks for the book recommend...

Needing a Simple Fast-ish Exercise Plan
Ok, I'm tired of being the World's Skinniest Fat Man (tm). I need to put some muscle onto my wee frame. I know there's butt tons of very effective muscle and strength building programs and devices. In fact a strongman competitor here even gave me some wonderful tips which I will use, when I find me ...

Goedendags and Similar Weapons
Were these (or close kin) used in the 13th century? And what variations were used in the eastern HRE (Saxony/Bohemia)?
Thanks!
Christopher
Thanks!

Thanks for all the input, everyone. There's a lot to contemplate. The numbers overwhelmingly favor the 12ga. Yet, a fair argument has been made for saving the money and going with the 14 ga. I don't think I'll be facing any superdukes in the next 6-12 months, and everything I've read says I'm dealin...

14ga Mild Hems-Resistance to Denting
I'm looking to buy my first helm for SCA combat. I tried once before, but it didn't fit my wonky head dimensions. I've got my maker, and the type picked out. I have a price quote for 14ga and 12 ga mild, and the 12 will cost about 50% more. for a first helm, is the 12 ga worth the extra money, or is...

Ah...I get ya. Explains why the clamshells are so common and cheap. Until now, I alwyas thought they were the ones that required more work. Always confused me why they were the cheap ones...lol Business level it would be great cause Im sure stainless version of these would sell fine at this price ca...

Ah, ok. I didn't know there were the flatter types out there. I'd like to try a narrow sole sometime, just to see if it works for me. Tho I can imagine what you mean about them feeling less than right to someone used to modern shoes. The lasting margin? That's the bit of the sole leather that overha...

But what about the remaining 10%? There's a lot that can happen in that 10% it didn't bear up to well. Whilst I cant comment on the historical sources of it which I am finding very interesting, personally I find fighting in mail with few under tunics underneath extremely comfortable in any weather (...

I had a description fail, sorry. If the back half of the last is flat on the table, the toe would point upwards. I guess it's not so much an upturn, but a compensation for the heel: m Here is why I'm hesitant about using a modern last. From Marc Carlson's site: So I hear you asking, why can't I just...

Oh, yeah, I forgot about the list...lol I gotta change my settings for that. Is that where I heard about that type? The two pieces of wood in an upside down T shape? As far as the shaping for a proper last, I suck at it. Period. Sculpting is one of those things that eludes me without investing more ...

Does anyone know who makes them? Does anyone make them? This is one of those kinds of things I need to buy. I know my limitations, and that sort of shaping has been proven more than once to be beyond said limitations. Can't draw, either . I'm getting to where I think my unlasted pattern is near work...

So basically, you made your last pattern the same way I made my pattern for cutting the leather. The difference being, you just stuffed it tight and used that as a last as opposed to cutting it up? Did the stuffing really make it rigid enough without messing up the shape? I've been thinking about us...

Ok. That;s what I was guessing, but figured I should ask. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to work on them again. All I've gotten done in the last 2 weeks is reshaping the heel on the other sole. Maybe I'll get it stitched soon. I wish I had a last. Where does one get a last for a 13th century styled sh...
