You know, I've been trying to think of something to say about this thing....really nothing coherent comes to mind. Just a lot of unintelligible noises of awe and wonder. I am amazed. The Tanners Bond (Tandy leather) contact cement: m It's made by Barge. I use it. I wish I could find a less toxic waterproof contact cement that works as well. You'll get high using it. Well, I know the part about the laminating to hold a curve, I was just wondering why the flat was thinner, and not in 1/2" as well.

How thin would you go with a curved, then, if you could get sheets in less than 1/4" thick?

Thanks!

Is there any other documentation other than that article that says mixed is appropriate for the mid-13th? In particular any finds of extant bits of that type from the given timeframe? Why thinner for the flat shield? I would think that without the curve it is not quite as strong. Obviously that isn't right, so....why does it work this way?

Flat rings with either round or wedge rivets. Excellent.

Thanks for the link!

Any evidence on whether the punched/riveted construction was stl being used, or was it all riveted by 1250?

Riveted Maille Rings

Is there an Indian or Pakistani supplier for these that any of you use? Just loose rings for riveting (and the rivets would be nice too). Someplace that is known to be reliable and puts out a reasonably good product for SCA use.

Thanks!

I'm just not sure why they would think that wood prods are inherently too weak to work.

Do you think they ever stacked staves kinda like a big wooden leaf spring?

Unfortunately the only images that come up in the 1270's I can't make anything about it out. But you're right, there's a dude from 1266 with a much shorter very triangular shield.
