It's Tandy in Richmond.

Do you have a better dealer than you can physically go to?

That's cool, Ernst. I always though of a cyclas as sort of a later tabbard/cloak hybrid. But I can totally see that.

Was the short front common in the HRE by any chance? Or did they prefer the one length version?

thanks,
Christopher

Well, it's really more that I want to make them than anything else. So, while normally I'd agree with outsourcing...I actually just want to do it...lol The thing I like best about the sole bends is the consistency. I get a lot fewer spongy spots, and once I got it cut out just love working with it. ...

Making leather Elbows and Knees

In the classified area, I posted an ad for sole bend remnants so I can work on making leather joints (floating) for SCA heavy fighting. Am I dramatically overbuilding? What weight is safe for that? It just seems that the heavy 16oz sole bend would be safest. I mean aside from metal, but I don't poun...

Saddle bend? At that size it sounds like skirting to me. I'm not a fan of the skirting. But if it is a bend, that'd be awesome. I'll see what my store has. Should be close to them today. Just looking for the sole bends. Also willing to take the 9/10oz sole bends, not just the 16oz I'm looking for re...

Oh. I thought that was just the shell on a CoP. So the red dags are the shell, and the sorta maize color is the surcoat? I am deeply envious, BTW. Never got costumes that cool growing up. Or even now...lol I'm probably going to end up going a bit earlier to when it was all one length. Match it up to...

Sole/Armour Bend Leather Needed

Just looking for remnants and scraps. Practicing on pieces that take up between 1 square foot up to 2 square feet. So if anyone's got any just laying around gathering dust that you want to get rid of, I'd love to talk about taking it off your hands. In the spirit of all the trade threads, I'm also w...

I could do that, Glen, but it would suck. And why do it if it's going to suck? They may be using willow branches like wattle. The pikes provide the initial frame work, and then weave a few in. Wouldn't take many. Kinda like a debris shelter for surviving in the woods. Wish I had a wagon...lol Christ...

Surcoat Length

How far down the leg should a surcoat that goes over armour reach? Say for about 1330. This is just to hide armour, and it's easier for me to make. Not that I think it'll see much use at practice, but if it ever is needed at an event to hide the ooogliness of the armour...

Killer link, Frau. Thanks!

That tent may be one of those thatched shelter Bob was talking about, too.

So, they kind of improvise a sawhorse out of pikes to support the canvas?

Ok, so you stake it down normally, as tight as if there were no inner frame, and then shove the frame in at an angle? And this goes over your rugs?

I'm sorry, Frau, I'm still not getting it. All I see in my mind is a shape like [ with the tips on the ground, running the length of the tent. Clang is awesomeness! I maybe should have mentioned I have yet to even buy a round headed rivet. All mine have been flat. By and large, I guess that doesn't alter things too much. Riveting Anvils

What do you guys use to peen rivets on? My system of a square headed hammer clamped to my work table just ain't working. I'm getting a lot of spongy or springy strikes. It's mostly not the table, as I can tell I'm getting some solid blows down. The hammer is especially bad on the inevitable curved b...

How big is the impact n interior space? And do you have a problem with wicking at the frame?

Interesting that the squares do that. Do you think putting a light frame to give it some rigidity might help?

Sod cloth? Not familiar enough with tentage to know what you mean. Are your walls long enough to stake out in that sloped look? And is it one with detachable walls or the permanent walls? Wow. Rounds, wedges, cones, oval ended marquees, and maybe a couple wall tents (one or two wedges are cut off at the bottoms, so they may be walls, maybe not). So all these are right for my Saxon fellow. This is good info. Now all I need to do is come to a decision and raise some funds. Thanks, Christopher
