From what I understand, the difference is that you are supposed to block with the rattan, but if you "miss" the block, and hits your basket, it is ok. Kind of hard to justify raising your shin the same way.

Have someone else stand up, and lock their knees. If you stand to the side, and look at them. you will notice that the ankle and the hip are both in front of the knees slightly. Not sure if it is truly 200 degrees, but it is slightly behind the line created between the hip and ankle. The knees look ...

And the price for such wonderful items? It looks like it sits on his head more than actually "clinging" to it, such as a modern skicap would. Is this a trick of the photo, or more how they were designed?

You might want to try and get closer to 200deg. When you lock your knees, the line betweem your hips and knees is actually slightly curved backwards a slight bit.

Yeah, I would suggest the same thing, especially if you plan on going earlier than about 1300. They are designed to protect your tailbone when jumping off a 15ft cliff on a bike  , so they stand up pretty well to those ducal wraps.

Actually, adding a heavy leather drape to the insides of it, and scavenging a 3-weapon mask, it looks to be a pretty good start to a fencing helm. Or C&T. I havent done either, but have seen someone else with a fencing morion. that looks along hte same lines. Edit: Looks like we had the same ide...

Actually, Edric the Bastard fights with a Atzinger shield, and aside from the "frequent" thickness questions, it was passed without issue. A rewrite is in process (we were waiting on Society Handbook) as I know several people who have shields that violate the 1lb/sqft rule.

That is not correct, no authorization is required to particpate in throwing weapons at targets, its the same as target archery. There are different marshals for each, but no authorizations. Yeah, unless you start grabbing the seax with your left hand (and pulling it out to the right  ), it wouldnt be having two weapons. Same way you can carry it with a spear or polearm. Even if you dont use it, simply having it there would do wonders for the look of your kit.

The best technique would be to block (assuming SCA rules). As Tasius said, he can only block or strike, whereas you can do both (assuming you dont swordblock). Just stay within your range.

If that were the case, Tor, all door trimlock would be illegal. If/when you make it out to practice, Edric has one you can look at. If you can escape from Torlandia, that is.

Actually a rattan seax attached to your belt as a dagger does wonders for bringing together the kit, and really moving it up. Several different armourys also sell nice sword furniture for rattan.

The other thing to do is make a "boar spear". Basically a "spear" that has a bit of a hewing edge on the front, so you can actually swipe with it. Add a buttspike (not period, but if you nail someone with the end of a hardwood in the in the face or gut, they are probably going down for a bit) and yo...
