I hope to hell it stings when im done too. someone is keeping score and i want them to know my name when im done. Your Grace, are you implying this should be an emotional stinging, or are you throwing at a level you expect it to sting through armour, in an effort to make sure your opponent will not...

You should be able to make bronze riveted rings from wire, but it will be pretty intense. I know some people have made riveted from scratch, but am unsure of the exact method. I think you make a ring, flatten, pierce, rivet, and there is usually annealing in there somewhere (not sure if it applys to...

I really have to reread that manual. From what I have seen here, what people down here in Meridies call Oldcastle is pretty different than most of the pictures (though most of them are transplants from Atlantia). The "stance" shown to me of what Oldcastle is thought of was (make sure you dont have a...

I will try and get a picture together when I am at FP. I still owe D. some pictures for the Warriors site. I think the bggest difference is the sword position I use, and I try and keep above my opponents (legs arent really bent that much). I didnt get a chance to get to the pickup field often (first...

Hey Ed, my lady might have a gorget she isnt using. Mild steel, pin closure. If you want full clamshells instead of demi's, I have a pair of roughed up ones for sale (still work better than hockey gloves). Adric has first dibs, after that, they are all yours. For simple elbows/knees, I would check o...

I have been told that I fight "HalfCastle". I have read the manual of Duke Gryth, and am from Meridies, but have never met His Grace. The way I hold my shield is pretty open, but not quite to the 90 deg. I have heard most fighters of this style use. I also have my arm tucked in behind my shield, and...

I agree with Trystan. I speak as someone who only wears his gambeson (besides a kidney belt). My lady actually made mine (looks similar to the one from Therion). There was not a whole lot of shaping going on in earlier gambesons, such as those seen in the Winchester Bible, and Mac Bible. They are mo...

I would try and contact Karl Von Sussen. I had a hauberk of his until I needed the money for other things. Never actually got around to fighting in it, but only lost about 15 rings from faulty closings (butted) and then it stopped. He sells hauberks and coifs in both butted (16ga. 5/16) and riveted....

Make a mockup in cardboard, so as to try and see how much of a "wing" you would need. It will be harder to do in plastic than metal or leather (I prefer the latter), simply to get the dished out part of the elbow to fit snugly around your arm. I have heard good things about heat guns though. As for ...

Both of those were from substandard equipment. The same could be said of a sword that had a basket break off, and get slung at someone. The difference is in the one or two swords people have, and the hundreds of arrows. I would argue there needs to be stronger inspections for CA, not that it is a pr...

This whole thing looks great, and the square washers tend to add to the look. The only possible critiques would be to plane down the handle where it is mounted to the shield, and reduce the number of nails holding down the rawhide. These things would bring it into the range from Really Frickin Cool!...

Most medieval shields from the era you are looking at (full plate) are pretty small (in the range of 25" along the long axis). That would be 63.4cm long, and about 22" wide (about 56cm). As you go earlier in history, the shields get longer. For around the 12th century (my personal focus), shields fo...

I thought I had read something about the English. I know I have read about Mongols using several quivers hanging off their horses, so 25 arrows to a quiver means you could have 4-8 quivers and have around 100-200 arrows. I am not sure this is unusual, as much as finding cultures who "valued" archery...

Prefaced with:(I skimmed the posts before this) I would suggest, even with the Wiki, there should be a section where people could post what they updated, so we would not have to read the document all the time, to find changes. I would also limit changes within a timeframe, to stop a feud from erupti...

In our rule set a fighter must: Have eye contact to engage an opponent in combat. An archer does not. In melee 2 lines are considered engaged with each other even without eye contact. An archer can stand behind and away from the 2 engaged lines and kill without any kind of engagement. Neither did t...

As an alternative to painting weapons, have people considered an obnoxious color of duct tape? Would look just as hideous for war, but would be able to be taken off after without leaving a residue (unlike orange paint on a fiberglass spear shaft). Or just get a lot of ribbon, and tie something aroun...

I think if that was the case, a comma in a different spot would have made it more evident. Such as: "A camail or aventail of maille , or heavy leather lined with 1/4 in. of padding." I would disagree with interpreting a rule simply because you like a certain ruleset, and therefore are introducing di...

As far as space wasting goes, I meant it in the sense of having usable space given the floor area. In my tent, I have 80 square feet at the ground. At head level, I do not have 80 sq. feet. Additionally, given the amount of storage space required, they are far from the most efficient tent to have. ...

That was kind of the point Aaron. Most of the people I hear about on here are talking about "plate is proof", but according to our armour standards, the only "plate" was your Norman cap/helm. Everything else was maille or boiled leather. Any supplemental armour you wear is your own issue. It doesnt ...
