I guess I got tool spoiled, after working at an Environmental Education place, where we had a pioneer setup, and most of the stuff was over 200-300 years old (and we let kids use it). We also didnt buy almost anything we could make out of wood (ax handles, atatl's, logs for benches, etc). The best o...

I would second the army chinstrap idea. Ask Freiman, they should have them in the PX. The ones I use rivet on one side, and snap together on the other, with drawstrings to tighten. Ok, that made no sense. Starting on the left, it goes: Riveted to helm, Drawstring to tighten, chin cup, Other drawstri...

That is essentially what I have started to do, Your Highness. The only exception is that I end up putting my shield on his (toward the edge) as your body on their shield is frowned upon here.

Re: Leather Breastplate Project... (Finished!)

I'm planning on painting it still, but figured I'd show off my first attempt at tooling with a swivel knife and using a beveler and stamp tools to press around the design. It's all Greek to me, and it was a fun process! Really, I didnt know the Greeks used globose breastplates! Looks more later per...

Only problem I see with Warm-n-Natural is it is not 100% cotton, but a cotton poly blend (which makes it hotter than 100% cotton).

Heartily reccomend fabrics-store.com. Just got 100 worth of linen and nothing was over about 6.50 a yard (cheaper than Jo-Ann on sale). Shipping is not really that expensive as the order grows (aka. 1-5 yards is like 7 dollars, and for the 15-20 yards I got shipping was 8.50).

Unfortunately, most of the guys around here are either in a helm they love, saving up for their "dream helm" built by X armourer, or need a hundred dollar "get them on the field" starter. Seems like we either have guys who love their kit, or new guys getting authorized. No mid-guys trying to improve...

Well, the whole offside head/tangling up their sword was working wonders for me last night. It completely sovled the problem of me getting tagged coming in. The other tactic that helped a couple of times was the scorpion to their sword arm (over my shield). I found I was able to "blind" myself to wh...

Thanks for the replies everyone. Practice is tomorrow, and I am going to try out a couple of different methods. BTW, this is for 1-on-1. In melee, I am a dedicated shield grunt, and follow the Leg 'Em=Leave 'Em philosophy. Have to leave something for the two sword people to do.

Fighting Legged Opponents (SCA)

I have recently come to a realization. I have a great onside leg shot, both at range and closing. The problem is I have trouble killing people once they are legged. I have tried a couple of different methods but nothing seems to be working right now. I fight with a giant door (24x44" heater), which ...

I would make sure that stuff is totally dry, and if it is waterproof (sealant), it shouldnt let anything out as well as in. I would go with the white pine to start, simply due to the ease of carving/sanding. She will be able to see quick results (which is important when first starting). If the Afric...

Also some of the showier helms on Ebay are 18 ga. I am not sure how big around they are, but in Meridies, 18ga. is legal for YC helms (not including the Dragon Class, 16-17yo. which uses heavy standards).

I am pretty sure untreateated leather is defined as 7-8 oz leather. I have known several people to use saddle skirting (15 oz.) untreated, besides compressing through work hardening, and they have not had a problem with it at all.
