One of the fastest (and most secure) methods for fastening leather to leather is to use rivets. There are several varieties. I use one eighth inch copper rivets, with little washers (called "burrs"). In Eighteen years, I have never had one break. They usually outlive the leather they are ...

OK, then show me some European leather armor remnants. There aren't any. You can only use examples from what exists. Widespread leather armor should have more prescence. Kind of reminds me of how I imagine a Curie would look, in order to still give the lines we see for tabards overtop. The problem with calling it that is that we have about a fingernail's worth of evidence of what they looked like.

The problem with sword shaped rattan is that it has to be at least 1 1/4" thick in any direction that may concievably impact an opponent. Which means if you start out with 1.5" diameter sticks or thinner, there isnt too much to work with. Starting with thicker rattan has it's own unqiue pr...

It is ridiculously easy to over-saturate leather with black dye. The upside is that it is fairly easy to get a consistent color across the belt. Try looking on craigslist and such for an older sewing machine table. Viola, instant treadle for a polisher. All you would have to do is make the top wheel, get the right size belt for tension, and add a mounting bracket.

For leather to metal, I just used the 3M stuff (forget if it was the household 45, or the Super 77). Has worked wonderfully, and held up for about 2-3 years now. Course, it is under maille, but except for a bit of peeling at the edges, no major issues.
