Having no idea of the culture of this tournament (and it sounds like there is quite a bit of history and emotion behind it), I may have a suggestion. My prior kingdom had a tournament that the sole entry to was winning a tournament of larger than X fighters (forget the number, want to say it was aro...

that's kind of what i figured, I was just trying to figure a use for a Beenie cap with this stuff in it. If it is coming in loose now, the solution I have may not work as well. My helm was just a bit too tight with the one layer of bluefoam, and this current setup just rocks (and is fully legal too). It does depend entirely on the remaining space in the helm though.

You may have a bit of trouble, Rowan. Try putting it on and leaving it there for a good 20-30 min. Simulate how long you may be in a War scenario. If you start to feel a dull headache, it may be a teensy bit too small. If so, PM me and I have a solution (had the same thing happen to me), that will b...

The key thing to think about when working with anything sharp or motorized, is how can this go wrong. What happens when I am chopping wood and the ax misses? Is my leg in the way? If the bench grinder grabs the thing in my hand, where is it going? Toward my stomach or towards teh wall/floor? Most pr...

So your saying SCA combat is won by beating your opponent to the point they can't stand. It's not won by getting good hit in on a 'kill' location and then your opponent can walk away on his own? If SCA combat is about beating your opponent till he has to be drug off the field, then I was mistaken. ...

AFAIK, there aren't too many active practices going on near Auburn. You may need to try getting over to Carrollton, unless something has started more recently. Anyone else from around there know of anything more (Sir Lex, HE Caspar, etc)?

Part of this is going to be the "I made it myself" aspect, and part of it is that I need enough arrows for two bows and a crossbow. So the costs for the jigs and such may be outweighed by the time I get done making about 5-6 dozen arrows/bolts. Glad to hear I was about on track for pricing...

They make several things for hidden defenses that aren't bulky at all. It also helps if you aren't quite so bulky to begin with, as it helps to "flesh" you out a bit. What exactly would need protection for you, with the game you are playing? Obviously, a 12ga skull, bargrill and a full wra...

So trying to roughly price this out, and it is coming to roughly about ~$45-50/dozen arrows. Does that sound about right for what it costs in materials? Figuring about 30 for the shafts, about another 10-15 for the fletchings, and not as sure about the tips. Does that sound about ballpark for this? ...

1. If you use one of my tools, put it back, exactly where you found it, and immediately when you are done using it. I would probably add to this "If you don't know where it goes, ask me. Don't guess!". Lost track of the number of times I would be over at a friend's shop, and he would hand...

Agreed about the maille. The only reason you wouldn't have had it is because you couldn't afford it, and then you would have had a heavy gambeson. Remember, you want things between you and the other guy's sword.

Are you looking for something that is also 14th century? Moving earlier by about 200 years means you can have a hauberk and Norman Conical for armour, and that could easily end up being half to a third of the current weight. Add hidden plastic or leather for extra protection if that is what your gro...

IIRC, it was in the 5.3 as well. Everything else came nice and smooth, but this had a "scratchy" texture to it. May have been the next step up (5.7?), as I was trying to find a sturdy material for an undertunic.

I was looking into getting a jig to try and start making my own arrows, and wondered what everyone else seemed to use, and like. I would worry slightly about accidental damage to windows and things. Flying weapon or block turns into a broken antique window. Otherwise, sounds great. I know of at least two churchs in Pittsburgh that have been converted (one into a bar, the other into a brewhall).
