No, not sure which cathedral (I was doing good to remember the city). It was in a book a friend of mine had, and I also thought it was very interesting, as it has a far later look than the embellished ones I think of which are that early (Goliath in the Mac Bible). This looks to be more like the one...

For cutting wood if that's what you need a sawsall or jigsaw works fine. You can get a scroll saw for a decent price tool. This right here tells me you haven't done a whole lot of precision woodworking. Yeah, those are great for the random shield or so, but a bandsaw is one of about four tools in m...

IIRC, it is in the Medieval Knight Osprey book, covering 13th century. Your Grace, most of what we have to go on regarding width is based on artwork, ranging anywhere from waist high (from the ground), to covering from chin to below the knee (this tends to be more for the 13th century artwork, with ...

Just to clarify, I am voting for the non-grounding option. I have an idea for padding that should work well enough, and I also don't want clown hands. It seems like there are fewer people making safe non-grounding kinds that are well made, so my hopes were that Andrew can come through for us, and he...

Some makers are making finger gauntlets where each finger curves around enough to connect with the rattan, insuring no finger crushing. Having handled some of these, I think that the finger splay is too wide for my comfort, hence my question. Depending on the attachment style, padding and gloving ma...

So where do the Germans fall out in all of this? Or do people not do German and still participate? Looking at doing a harness a la Guenther von Schwartzburg which is dated 1349. Is this outside of the guidelines, or is it French (by virtue of being closer to Germany than England is)?

The texts he was working from show attacking the sword. Those texts do use smaller targs and bucklers but many in the WMA community feel that those methods can be extended to larger shields. I had the same feeling as Kilkenny. As a buckler/small shield man myself, I strongly disagree with the "...

Not to drag out the issue further, but what exactly does going up to corpra (think you meant Corp o ra) have to do with business practices of someone who sells to different groups? All that would do is have an effect within the SCA, not within the business world. Filing a complaint with the BBB woul...

I've been failed at Pennsic for the specific, verbally stated reason of not having my xyphoid process covered with rigid material. All sorts of crazy crap happens at inspections. A grill over a grill isn't the norm. A wise fighter would anticipate trouble from it. Are you aware that rigid protectio...

To quickly recap my other points, and add a bit more information... I believe the Assise that I referenced had aketons mentioned as being required of a lower class of citizen and a maille shirt of a higher class. There is no mention of whether they are to be worn together or not, simply that it is t...

Guys, lets not continue to derail this thread further, and instead start a new thread to talk about this. Historic Research maybe? I do think we need to try and distinguish standalone padded garments from ones worn under maille (if it is possible off of the evidence). I would love to find out that w...

I think that the armour looks nice, and certainly sounds like it is made from quality materials. However, I am throwing in with Audax. Just because something may appear to look like that in the Bayeaux Tapestry, does not mean that we have any supporting evidence for it. There is zero evidence that c...

Had my gambeson for about 3 years now, after living in Georgia. Washed about 10-15 times total in that time, never had any mold problems. Was cotton and linen only. Just hang it up to dry every so often, or leave it in your trunk. That's what I did. Do you ever have to swing or did your foes fall o...
