For which (SCA combat usefulness or Historical Accuracy)? IIRC, period bazubands didn't cover the elbow to the extent needed for SCA. I believe Cat made a pair that added decorative bits to the edges for the needed protection. That being said, all of the above are friggin sweet, and I am going to st...

Another great way to get an "eye" for what artwork is representing is David Nicolle's "Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era". It was his personal sketchbook, and there are footnotes describing what he thinks it represents.

Only one I know of making them for this period. And with the exchange rate, it will be fairly expensive. I know that Adam Berry's wife has a tutorial on his site about making these.

Not neccesarily for "the timeperiod" but I was more emphasizing the group one would be re-enacting with. I understand some LH groups have minimum steel thicknesses, and such like that.

Make sure you try every possible combination of placing the piece, both to reduce waste, and to make sure there are no blemishes on the other side, right in the middle of your work.

The links are considerably smaller. For price, depends on when he wants to move it. I would say at a low ballpark at least 600-700, and easily up to about 1250, depending on the market. Not sure of groups acting within that timeperiod, or of it's legality within any of those rulesets, which may be a...

After the dip, I put them in a very low heat oven, trying to be just warm enough to get the excess wax to run off or soak in. Through stabbing blows, yes, but that's not how you hit the side of a person's head. Flanking was deadly because it exposed the sides of the body at all, and the sides of the head to stabbing rather than slashing, thus rendering them vulnerable to spears. Also because it increased the area shields ...
