That almost makes sense to me except that the hands are not a target area anyway. So if the buckler covers an illegal strike zone, it makes more sense under your statement to not have them. From my understanding, people wear finger bucklers so they are able to move their fingers independantly (henc...

Not really sure, as I was leaving for fighter practice as the car was pulling into the complex (past 6pm). Called the office, and told them the next time I had the police called for something that was the sound equivalent of nailing into a stud, I was filing a charge of harassment against them, and ...

Ok, I will look into the Coppergate. Anything closer to around 12th century? (Guess that is what I get for asking general questions) Gave whittling as an example, as it is an easy reference point for people to work with. That, and I remember a statute talking about Templars who had nothing better to...

Ok, does anyone have citations of mallets being used in a camp context in European Middle Ages? Looking for wood only, that someone could shave down with a knife while killing time. I have to think they were used, as it is just too good of an idea not to (price, cost of materials, and level of effor...

Yeah, when they call the cops due to me peening copper rivets at four in the afternoon, I just gave up. This was on my deck, as I live in an apartment.

What really p*sses me off about it is they didn't even bother to say anthing to me before doing it.

If they had finger bucklers over the top of the gauntlets would that change your opinion? -Dietrich Well, since SCA rules dictate that shields, even bucklers, are immortal and indestructible...sure, why not. Would be interesting to see someone try that. Is it legal to use a buckler/shield with a tw...

Having gotten one of those when auctioned off here, you still need a bigger one to work with anything larger than half gauntlets.

Ok, I was thinking it would probably be one of those "really common" items, that people wouldn't really bother saving. I know as soon as we busted one, it was thrown into compost, and we made another. Seems just too darn simple not to have existed at one point or another. You can make them...

Mauls in Camp?

So a thread on another forum got me thinking. In several areas, working with hand tools, I have used a maul. Giant thick piece of wood (usually hardwood), with a semblance of a handle carved into it. Is there any evidence things like this were used in camp settings for mundane things like tent stake...

Rustoleum works wonderfully, being designed for what you are trying to get it to do.

BTW, Paw-Paw's death has been attributed to many factors, but heating galvanized once or twice won't kill you. It is the overall buildup of years of working with it. It may make you sick however.

Yeah, they have a high level of quality. Be aware, the "natural" is far rougher than most of their other fabric offerings. They also have a starting price of $7-8, but subsequent addings cost very little (aka. 2yrds cost 7.20, but 15yds cost 8).

I have also used fabric.com

Couple of things to keep in mind about using sheepskin. One is that the edges tend to "shed" making them a bit thin, so I found that sewing them together was the best way to get enough coverage. Even still, there are places where it is 2 layers of sheepskin, because the fuzz wasn't thick e...
