While I applaud your enthusiasm, running barefoot & in base sandals will get your feet looking like the ones in the pic above. Yuck! Google "MBT". It is a shoe design that basically makes you walk on the ball of your foot. It promoted better posture and prevents the damage done by plac...

Fighting the system and becoming something others say you can't isn't a good story? Not to mention getting the girl and improving the life of your friends. I don't know, for a confrontational guy like me who came up fighting the establishment I like it. Now I didn't claim it was my favorite movie, i...

I look at the SCA like I look at movies like 'A Knight's Tale'. It is a good story with a medieval theme. I can overlook the historical errors in exchange for the better parts of it. This organization took me in and didn't judge the crappy garb and armour that I started out with, partially due I'd s...

I disagree and don't expect people to be 100% accurate. I will go do LH for hardcore stuff and the SCA for a combination. You have a good SCA presence Johno. I think you could easily add greaves to those legs and make a nice jump. Even the leather covered plastic would be quick & cheap. Glad your getting the historical bug.

Post as you change things.

Yup, the SCA consensus is a definite. The normans would have encountered it as the fought the Byzantines in Italy and the Muslims in Sicily in the time frame you are looking to portray. They would have had more contact with it as they went on crusade. So just like every varangian viking wears lamell...

It is easy to breath through and see through if you are bringing it up to your top bar.

I'll second that is helps the helm sit more securely and safely.
