Same as Maeryk. While I vary it a little at times, that is the basic rule of thumb I was taught.

Hidden elbows & hidden knees. I don't wear thigh armour usually and have a linen gambeson/vest with a hardened leather plate over my kidneys.

Tendonitis 3 times in my shoulder and one bad wrist strain. I have suffered many bad hang-overs from attending SCA events though. :D

The one marriage it affected would have ended anyway and I would trade her again for all of the amazing friends I have made over the last 13 years.

I'll throw in another vote for Scott. His stuff is fantastic and he usually carries some stuff that was cast off of originals. He is pricey but you get what you pay for. Greenshield does some really nice stuff as well, and he is a Scott also. He is a period nazi too, so your getting cool stuff. Uric

Gleann Abhann does allow the older youth to fight in melees. There was a recent injury that caused the rule to be questioned. It has since been resolved here.

Maelgwyn, this is no longer the case. The original ruling has been changed to ALLOW minors (with consent) to fight.

Let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see you there.

I have not heard about this either, and it has never been brought up on the GA chiv list. I will ask our KEM and try and get you an answer.

We fought against Melgwyn & his son at Bordermarch, and Gleann Abhann didn't have issue there. :D

I would echo the helmet first ideas. You can get a simple stater helm for relatively cheap. Getting a crap spuntop will not fit you well and you are more prone to injury as a new fighter in a crap help. Look through some history pics or go to the "I want to be a ----" forum. Get some ideas...

I have a Panther bell back wedge and I love it for longer events. My uprights are 8' tall and my ridge is about 10' and it is WAY too much tent for a weekend event for me. It packs down into a bigger plastic storage box without room for much else. Like most wedges, it is easily set up with 2 people....
