What really kills the look of the SCA weapons isnt so much what the heads can be made from, but rather what they have to be built for. The 1.25 inch cross section makes a big impact on the appearance as does the 1.25-3 inch thrusting tips and no more than .5 inch possible projection into a helmet. I...

As Leo said, yes they are legal. I have a single spring pin holding my visor closed. It originally was so strong I had a hard time getting it off even with help. I eventually worked out a technique to do it myself though. Over time the pin got damaged (from how hard it was to take off im sure) and I...

Ask any teacher... The hardest people to fence are fast athletic beginners. Why? Because they are fast strong and unpredictable. They dont fall for mind games because they havent learned them yet. They see opening, they attack. As for you and your responses, the best option you have is to fight many...

The closer the eye opening is to your eye the easier it is to see. That's why klapvisors are easier to see out of than houndskulls. Respectfully I can't agree with the Hundskulls being harder to see out of. If it's made right you should have the occulars closer to your eyes, since the nose of the h...

Here is a thread where several people discuss this very issue. m Check it out for lots of good advice and experiences. Otherwise, the only additional point I have to make is that most people who believe that close helmets are detrimental to our game are people who fit into one of the following categ...

Re: Who made these demis for me?
Gentlemen, I feel pretty stupid here. But doing right in this case is more important than looking clever... In late 2006, without any extra money and balancing what I had, I asked for some help finding demi gauntlets, as I was putting together my first rig. I had no clue of what I what I was lookin...

do you know there is a family owned armoury in Golden Avenue of Prague (the one in Czech republic) As opposed to the 2 Prague's in America? Or New Prague or Praha? For the prices you are looking at, i would go to m and look at the Wisby coat of plates. Good for mid 14th century, and since its custom made to your specs, it wont be as heavy as it feels in the hand. Well made, custom armor is a treat to wear and is comfy. This piece is quite historical as well wh...

i use lots of very small strapping tape strips. Like 1/8th-1/4 inch wide, criss crossed over and over. If its multiple layers of foam, the lower layers dont get quite as many strips, the top gets covered. Where most people mess up, i think, is that they dont run the strips holding the thrusty far en...

i tell people that if they are looking for an upper middle range helmet to plan on spending between 500-1000 dollars. i dont know if i like the idea of either option. I dont believe the average person strong enough to stop a grinder that binds or kicks with just one arm, and the brace location makes it very awkward to hold onto the trigger properly while still bracing the grinder. Personally, i wouldnt even try it....

I consider all SCA combat forms martial sports. Its not an art, as there isnt enough overall cohesion in the way its taught, and the mental theory in the way it is to be fought. I dont think its just a game or sport either, as it is a full contact activity with some form of weapon and derived from (...

cutting 2 inches off the top of those would put the bulge for the calf just below the knee cap. I think you could trim some material off the top, but 2 inches would probably be extreme. I would likely trim some from both ends to help keep them fitting in the right spots. I recently got a pair of off...
