Chef, heres the problem.... you said real swordsman, in real combat... I specifically stated STAGE COMBAT. And for the stage combat busines, IMHO you cannot do better than a starfire. Sword shapped crowbar or not!

wraith.... I have used MRL swords for stage combat. you can take the edge off easy enough with a file. Ive been doing stage combat for 10 years and for the 1st 6 I used a MRL sword and it hekd up fine! sorry to burst your bubble, but they will work. Starfire worse than windlass!! well now well now...thats not true...... MRL swords are fine for STAGE combat. I have used them before and they work fine. In that respect they are "battle ready". I mean who buys one of thier swords to take into actual "BATTLE" now a days?? Now in a real fight... hell no I wouldnt use one.... Id us...

Remember folks - linseed oil and pine resin mix, boil them up to form a really glutinous and varnish like medium (actually it is varnish), grind up the pigment of choice in it and slap it on. uhhhh yeah sure.......if by boiling linseed oil and pine resin...you mean driving to the harware store........
