Re: Man On Anvil Helmet Review -In Progress

Ask Gerhard here on the Achive. He asked Man on Anvil over FB why his helmets appeared to be axatly the same pictures on other amorers website. Man on Anvil Never answered him, deleted the posts, and blocked him from his page. I hope this turns out alright for you, but the whole situation just seems...

Re: Hospitaller Armor

I did say "on it's own" Ernst. I was only replying because, well, to be perfectly honest, your original response could come across as a tad snarky. And I know no other organization that refers to it's armored combat as "Heavy Combat." Especially posted by a person who's location says Outlands. Which...

Re: Hospitaller Armor

Ernst you do realize that when he says Heavy Combat he is referring to SCA Heavy combat do you not? I would not wear only mail in SCA combat. Not unless I was having a terrible fight with my internal organs and wanted to see them bludgeoned to death. That and mail by itself will not pass SCA safety ...

Re: Advice for fighters looking to improve their armor

Havarr: You make a point but I disagree... First. Switch 2 and 3. It is far easier to start looking good if you KNOW what you want to look like. Also I think that #1 is a personal priority: I care more about looking like a Historical Man at Arms than I care about fighting. Fighting in the SCA has ne...

Re: When did the cervelier start being worn?

I suppose "drape" was a bad choice of words. I was using "drape" as a erm for the simulated coif we often see on SCA helmets.

The no sleeves with the split up the middle is what I am looking for. Just red with a big white cross down the middle.
I need it by Oct 11 at the latest.

Re: Red Hospitaller Surcoat on the Quick?

As long as it is not blatently modern I don't really care. Cotton would be fine. Linen would be fantastic. Wool would be FANTABULOUS. Really as long as it isn't rayon or polyester I am all good.

Re: When did the cerveliere start being worn?

May have answered my own question.
Would you agree that this image from 1215 is a cervelier? http://armourinart.com/269/435/

Or this one from 1270 http://armourinart.com/301/482/

I am just wondering how early one could get away with wearing a cervelier with a chain drape.

Thanks!

Re: Advice for fighters looking to improve their armor

The only thing I would caution on is getting *to* indepth. If you are doing it for a fighter to improve thier armor then stick to that. Get a little bit into what to wear under the armor: only as it applies to martial activity. The "How to dress yourself when your lady's away: A fighters guide to a ...

Re: IWTB a CotT guy... 1351

You are assuming that the armor has no give or flex to it.
Aslo there is historical evidence of the avential having a padded liner as well. That would mitigate any hammer/anvil effect.

If she want's to be a Hospitaller she is going to either want White on Black or White on red. Period. Specificto Malta she will want the White on Red. And it will be quite late period. The KNights were not given malta until 1530. Now they were wearing the White on Red before Malta. " In 1248 Pope In...

Please check the thickness of the helmet before you fight in it. I bought one very similar to that from Maxim (one that came with an interchangeable hounskull) It dented pretty badly with one moderate hit, not excessive, moderate. IF I had been hit with a really REALLY good hit, like from a pole arm...
