Re: By-My-Hand one piece sigle handed hilt prices & options?
@Zippy: Really? It seems that theres an either or with these. Either you break a lot of swords, or you don't. You break alot, our local Count doesn't, and he's a big guy who could drive pilings with his blows.

Re: Need help with a Research Paper.
Mostly it just 'getting the story right' that confounds me. Its hard for me to write, thus my style of speaking directly to the reader (which happens to confuse & confound the teacher a little).
So far in the class I have a 'B' and I will be happy just to pass it truthfully.

Re: Need help with a Research Paper.
It's more a story paper than anything else. I just need to tell a good story. Something that is a god simple story, or that tells a good simple story, as the last part of the paper is only to be 3-4 double spaced pages long.

Re: Need help with a Research Paper.
None really. I'm just using the battles to be illustrative of the topic as there is nothing in this world I want to know bad enough to do a 10 page research paper so I am writing 3 3pg supported-with-lite-research story papers.
It's the final paper(s) for Eng 101.

Need help with a Research Paper. (x-post)
I have a paper due in 5days that will be in 3 parts: Horse Combat, Foot Combat, & the English Civil War.
I've got the battle for Horse Combat (Hastings), and the battle for foot combat (Lake Peipus), but what I need is a good, simple battle for the 1st English Civil War.
Got ideas?

Re: Can one fence SCA rapier in a historical style?
Fun fighting is fun fighting. As long as you don't break me the I'm cool. My first rapier practice in Sacramento I got told this: "Boy I love fencing you heavy fighters. Cause I can actually hit you & you don't care. You don't think it's excessive" "You were hitting harder than yo...

also anything with Duke Uther is Going to Be Violent. Actually there is one fight vid with Duke Uther that kinda sucks (not violent) and I am the reason for it. See, I went up to fight him and 11 years of fighting went out the window as I lost the intimidation check. He was fine, I was not. I have ...

Re: Making a rattan weapon last?
As Duke Paul can attest, A local Knight by the name of Sir Khaalid had a method (which I'm not sure is even legal anymore) and it went like this: Take a 2" diameter PVC tube with a cap at one end and a screw on top at the other which is just a bit longer than your rattan. Put your rattan in the...

Re: Shield size
Also it does depend on the shield type and grip used. My kits is a little wide for me at 22", yet the center-grip round I plan to make will be 29" across. Shield type & purpose has a lot to do with it. I was reading that some Norsemen thought that a center grip round shield that was 24...

Re: Shield size
If you look at someone holding a shield, and think/say "That is a huge/small shield" what exactly are you basing that judgement on? Ah, I base it on the relationship that exists between the shield and its user. In my fight with Malyn I remember quite clearly thinking that she was using wa...

Re: Shield size
I think you kinda answered your own question (and quite well too I might add). At Coronet I fought Malyn Edwardis (5'2" 100lbs) and Duke Uther (6'6" 300lbs) . Malyn's shield seemed small for her and would have been a buckler for Uther & Uther's shield seemed fine for him but would have...
