OK. I've watched this tragic thread unfold that I started, and I know that I was more the straw not the load that broke the camel, but I must confess: I do not feel bad about starting this. Perhaps I should but, if I were the one stiffed, it would have been a very bad day indeed for the one on the e...

Re: Tests of skill.
Does anyone still do stuff like this? Duke Paul B. once did something similar. He walked up, had her stick out her sword to full extension so that it touched his face just to the side of his nose. He then told her to throw a normal snap right at his head. After some consternation she did.... All Pa...

Thank you all! Every post was of value to me, and good to read. My goal is to try to teach folks to have the attitude of the Sport Climber in the analogy. It doesn't matter how we travel the Path, or the speed of our ascent. All that matters is that we travel the Path. Keep 'em coming! @iomtalach: T...

Need a review on this analogy on the Martial Arts.
(hope this is the right forum) I came up with this when being told that I was not a martial artist/historical swordsman for reasons X, Y, and Z. I came up with it to show how dumb the crap I was being told was. Can you give me feedback? ---------- Imagine that you are in Yosemite Valley . http://www...

<snip> Please don't go to their forum to defend the SCA, I think the thread is winding down, and I'd rather avoid any unpleasantness. If you have WMA interests it's an pretty good forum, and I'd encourage people to participate if they're interested, but please don't jump in just to defend the SCA. ...

What it means to be a Martial Artist.
I just had to cross post this. It was on the forum for the HEMA Alliance, and it just spoke to me. It spoke right to the core of what it means to be a martial artist, and what it means to be Knightly in that intent and dedication. Thank you Kevin. You truly made my day better, and me a better person...

I tried and tried to think of something useful to add. And I did. When you fight, never forget to have fun. Viscount Thor Stagge is always smiling and having a good time. He's the guy I always hear people citing him as the example of a fighter who is always having the best time he can, he's the one ...

LTB Gorget for HEMA Longsword Waster combat.
My roommate is going to enter a HEMA Longsword Tourney next month and needs to buy a Gorget... But he has only $50. THe requirements are the same as for an SCA gorget, but with the thinner weapons I didn't want to recommend anything that would get him, in his one year of experience, gakked. But I ha...

It's a old converted SCA bastard sword that had a tendency to hit too light, a lot. I would have made into a Dane axe but the rattan is ugly and covered in old tape (though it is still quite sound). In between Rhomphaia hood and Bastardsword hood it was a Bao Gua Dao for a Chinese weapons tourney. I...

WTB Fencing Mask or perf plate attachement, need ideas.
Looking for either a used Fencing Mask for C&T, Wasters & Rapier or a Perf plate attachment for my helm (A MTO Norman from Windrose).
Pretty is nice, but safe is necessary. Ideas?
