Wow this is fascinating. Are there any extant coppiced trees still around? There are records of coppiced trees hundreds of years old, which would have produced vastly more readily useable material than a single tree ever could. It's a continually- harvestable crop What about soil depletion? Id think...

Most of these will fit or could be tailored to fit someone 6'2 ish and up. The prices are quite reasonable. Nothing outlandish. And Ill accept up to 2 payments (if necessary...ie, your married or in college .) A nice late 14th early 15th century half-welded cuirass. The bottom has a rolled edge and ...

This is interesting....so if Im understanding this correctly, the concept behind coppicing is that the land/square footage used by a single tree can be managed such that it produces multiple trees from a single base? Just checked the blade...

The teeth --all of them-- are in alignment. So I doubt they were all straightened, no signs of bent blades

However the bevel on every other tooth is the same.

Oh.. another point. If it's red with rust and pitted, it's gonna stick. Period. Polish it as best you can with steel wool or the like, then apply a coat of a paste wax, like Johnsons, or even paraffin or beeswax to the blade. A lot of the "jerk" you are getting is because it's hanging up....

Try SHARPENING the damn thing. ANything lying around that long, and/or _rusty_ is dull as a dishrag. Cast about on the net, and figure out how to sharpen it. If the teeth are "in line" with no set, it might be a ripping saw, for sawing apart boards. In that case, you need it really sharp....
