Wow this is fascinating. Are there any extant coppiced trees still around? There are records of coppiced trees hundreds of years old, which would have produced vastly more readily useable material than a single tree ever could. It's a continually- harvestable crop What about soil depletion? Id think...

Do a play on words; it was quite common actually. I did. My avatar being a Chi Rho (bespeaking my religious side) is a 'play' on Parts and Technical...which is also a Han Solo line in Return of the Jedi. (Im a Star Wars fan, btw) So my avatar and armour mark tell several stories. Here is something y...

Most of these will fit or could be tailored to fit someone 6'2 ish and up. The prices are quite reasonable. Nothing outlandish. And Ill accept up to 2 payments (if necessary...ie, your married or in college .) A nice late 14th early 15th century half-welded cuirass. The bottom has a rolled edge and ...

When does Rum come into the picture? a bit off topic,..I posted this a few weeks ago: I recently had a shot of 300 year old rum found on a spanish shipwreck. The rum was technically english, later commandeered by the spaniards. Inside the bottles they found coconut fibers, lemon juice and fish oil.....

This is interesting....so if Im understanding this correctly, the concept behind coppicing is that the land/square footage used by a single tree can be managed such that it produces multiple trees from a single base? This would make some sense (and I appreciate your post as Ive never heard of a copp...

I have debated asking this question for fear it looks rather silly....but the more I thought about it...the question was so basic and the apparent answer so elusive that I thought Id pitch it yalls way and see what you guys come up with. Simply put.... in any given medieval town or village, where do...

The first things to remember is that while we can identify general styles and trends, the wearing of armour (which also followed trends) also requires more intimate modification to it....you have some room to fiddle with what feels best and what works b...

Anyone ever used a two man saw... .they are rather like a marriage...one pulls, than the other pulls, until you get to the end and realize it was easier with one person. I bought one last weekend...about six feet long. Similar to this: BUT THIS IS NOT MY SAW..... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...

Yes I prefer the foot operated for several reasons. First, and quite truthfully...exercise. One of the reason I love armouring is because of the semi workout it can provide. Second, I prefer to be able to set up a piece and then stomp And then third...I prefer simplicity. (unless I lived near a vigo...
