Yeah Talbot has been indispensible for such assistance.
I think it will remain an X file.

I agree. Like I said, Im a merchant/dealer in several very different fields and while there is a culture of expectation involved,.....bad business and poor customer relations are ruinous to a business. Now, if Karl bit off more than he could chew, thats one thing....I accept it. And as you pointed o...

ARMING BUCKLES: 'bronze'....iron.....or both
Ive been in an uber sculpting mood lately since I need a bunch of hardware for some white harnesses Im working on. This got to thinking about arming buckles. Most that Ive seen on effigies or in the Visby finds seem to be squarish rectangles or trapazoidal in shape. D shaped dont seem as likely for ...

If you're thinking of going into buckles, the market needs more munitions-grade steel armor buckles- not cast, of course, but shaped from bar stock. The only domestic supplier I can think of is Patrick Thaden and his are pretty spendy. I think Steel Mastery carry them, but they never answered my qu...

Thanks guys! Yes Karl they will be for sale, but first thing first, I gotta sculpt em all first! Im concentrating mostly on 14th and 15th century militaria at the moment...and then I plan on working out. I plan on doing a range of armour buckles too...in fact Im in the midst of sculpting 5 versions ...

I dont wrap tight. I dont wrap..I apply the layers vertically; only wrapping a single roll around as the shells dry. Actually Mac was the one who explained to me how to make body casts about 12 years ago. He never mentioned, at the time, using the plastic. Ive made at least thirty of fourty body cas...

So these are... milled/tooled steel masters, from which you will make molds to cast bronze or pewter? All of the above. I sculpt the prototypes out, mold them up, cast them...clean em up more....remold them. Send them to NASA for precision engineering and then to a professional sandblasting service...

Well Ive done both methods and I dont feel that wrapping gives as much detail as plaster of paris against the body.....bearing in mind vasoline or some form of cream is used. My own body cast torso was made with plastic wrap and then plaster of paris. My legs and arms were made with vasoline rubbed ...

Yeah Ive seen that and Ive done it. The problem is that the plastic wrap distorts the lay of your bones, muscles (which is exactyl what we need to look for) vs. a straight on plaster of paris application. The plastic can also be very dangerous to the model as it can trap body heat and cut off circul...

BEWARE THE PLAQUE ATTACK !!!
Well, I had a bunch of white harness projects that needed plaque belts and between time and budget I was unable to go with some of the other plaque belts current available (some of which are very nice). So what does Ms Necessity do when she cant get her way.... I really got into this project and hav...

You're right it is tall. Don't know why I can't seem to get these right. Back to the drawing board. New one tomorrow. Best I can tell you is that its not easy....it takes practice so dont expect to learn it overnight...or in a week. This is also why mold makers are professionals. Ive been doing it for about 13 years thus far. And I will be equally honest with you that a bad cast of your body or part, can result in ...

Some helms, the curvy variety of helmets (usually bascinets in the SCA), and gauntlets. These tend to be regarded as things that are somewhat to quite difficult to make well. Barrel helms go to one market segment -- the beginners. Bascinets go to another, these being middling experienced fighters a...

after looking at their site, it looks to me like they are great at hiding a very rudimentary amount of shaping behind a whole lot of extremely shiny high polish......
