We see them in Germany as late as 1400+ a few years.

In tournaments, they seem to have survived or been revived, but as to what material....metal...wood....latten....hard to say for sure.

Are you talking about metal greaves? If so, they sit on the leg. Some have a stud through which the demi-greave (with several holes) goes through which partially helps support each other.

ARMING BUCKLES: 'bronze'....iron.....or both

Ive been in an uber sculpting mood lately since I need a bunch of hardware for some white harnesses Im working on. This got to thinking about arming buckles. Most that Ive seen on effigies or in the Visby finds seem to be squarish rectangles or trapazoidal in shape. D shaped dont seem as likely for ...

If you're thinking of going into buckles, the market needs more munitions-grade steel armor buckles- not cast, of course, but shaped from bar stock. The only domestic supplier I can think of is Patrick Thaden and his are pretty spendy. I think Steel Mastery carry them, but they never answered my qu...

Actually Mac was the one who explained to me how to make body casts about 12 years ago. He never mentioned, at the time, using the plastic. Ive made at least thirty of fourty body cas...

Yeah Ive seen that and Ive done it. The problem is that the plastic wrap distorts the lay of your bones, muscles (which is exactyl what we need to look for) vs. a straight on plaster of paris application. The plastic can also be very dangerous to the model as it can trap body heat and cut off circul...

For every myth there are many variables.

Surely, its true if:

--the mongol was far enough away from the archer
--on horseback MOVING FAST, away or counter to the arrow
--which armour on

.....and a few layers of material, including silk

But, I SAY WE TEST THE THEORY!
