CHARLES VI LEG HARNESS (the breakdown pics)
I have about a dozen of the photos showing the leg armour taken apart....the cuisse, the cop rig, the greave and sabaton....and of the vamnbrace and gauntlet too. Where did these photos originate (who took them) and are there any more floating around somewhere....it seems as though there would be mo...

Well a bargrill is what it is....not period for all but late period tourney helms and a possible freak bargrill depiction in the 14th century....that is still debatable. The flesh look will only work if viewed straight on... a side shot will make it look odd. I suggest flat black as its easily lost ...

This is what I did to my previous helmet: http://www.partsandtechnical.com/scabreast.JPG ....I covered the lower portion of the bargrill but I also affixed the aventail higher than on the edge. Youll find many vervelles were not necessarily on the extreme bottom edge....the earlier in the century yo...

I suspect both variations existed. However the padding also helps in several other important aspects: --It adds additional impact resistance --adds a protective layer to keep any burst rings from possibly cutting (even though a collared arming coat would also help somewhat) --and it helps keep the m...

Farriers shop is actually 1540 (see the date on the painting). Which goes to show that sometimes you can't trust the dates given in a database. Good eye Fire Stryker I honestly wouldnt have caught that at first glance amidst the other pics until you pointed it out, lol Although the clothing should ...

I have some IronMonger tools and can vouch for some of them. Ive had a few stake ends break off but as Matt said, you are as well to make many of your own....though it can take time....so you will need patience to make each tool as they can take a while to amass. I keep a notebook by my worktable fo...

A sobbring but interesting thread. Dura, The problem with assuming the cuisse is thicker on average than helmets and breastplates is that it does not appear to be usually. At times it most certainly is thicker than one would assume but the only cuisseses I have handled that were around 1.5mm up were...

This is a very contraversial question because we dont know for certain. We dont even know that much about the techniques that were employed. Visually all we really have are hammer marks on the inside of armour which suggest the types of hammers used (rather like a footprint in the snow). We also hav...

The other problem too is the issue of thickness vs. resistance. Its very hard to cut through something that moves when impacted. Was he moving at the time? Or Was he moving away from the blade at the time? Or Was he moving toward the blade at the time? In addition, there are cases in which cuisses w...

I dont buy the single hack theory. Or the full battlefield 'amputation hack.' This is a very plausible approach. Seems to me that if both legs were injured during the battle, and later infected, turned gangrenous, and needed to be amputated, it would probably officially go down as having lost his le...

It would never hold up though. Its a totally different combination of physics. Lamellar pieces are not, themselves, expected to grip anything. Plastic mail links, by themselves, are expected to grip each other. The only conceavable way these would work is if the links were so flexible they could get...

I will happily give this helmet a total polish and shine overhaul for shipping...even a mirror shine if the buyer wants it. The aventail needs some ring replacements, which I will repair no charge. The facts: --custom barrel vervelles --low point (a bit more unusual) --decorative aventail red leathe...
