True, true Klaus. I suppose my point was that Matts showing a lot of promise for wanting to achieve a good shape and finish, which I think he should pursue. In my opinion its better to master the shape and finish....and then decide to offer lower gradations, such as cheaper munitions if desired. But...
I just caught this thread. Its a bit early, however late this winter/early spring we will be unveiling a full plate "white harness" components (circa 1400) featuring authentically shaped 'higher end munitions' pieces yet priced at extremely competitive rates. We may omit the helmet as ther...
Nice job Matt. In the spirit of healthy criticism, I also agree that they need more of a curve between the meta and cuff. Also, I sincerely suggest really working on your finish and appearence....partly through some more plannishing, but largely through more grinding/polish clean up. I see some piec...
I make them as well. These are about ten years old based on late 14th/early 15th century styles bordering on a corrazina but the idea is similar...I actually based it on one I believe 'Mac' made years ago. still in progress... http://www.partsandtechnical.com/brigback.JPG later converted to a backpl...
I am a lifter but Ive also learned to force myself to use my left hand....it is harder and takes concentration but its very useful, especially when you leave your other arm at your friends house overnight. Very inconvenient.
Been hunting around for a reliable source of armour buckles which Im going to need rickty-tik-tik. Figured this could become a useful thread list of all the armour buckle makers out yonder...I like using different sources to keep things varied. So if you know of a reliable armour buckle source....pl...
Ah yes Will does fantastic work! He ranks among one of the top 15 most visible armourers in my opinion. And the range of his work is equally impressive. Very friendly and approachable fellow too.
Ugh....why dont you guys just make a simple 'springy' fluting tool...and/or get better with a hammer. I understand the bead roller is a fluting tool in a manner of speaking but it seems like such overkill. Forgive me, nothing personal really....I just really like the authentic approach which I stron...
If you mean the lobe on the front plate which covers the ankle bone that is a common feature on English greaves see well into the 14th century/. Aside form the BP effigy it is present on: Ralph Neville, Hugh Caveley, Sir Robert Grushill, and Robert Lord Hungereford among others. Cet, First ...thank...
Most Home Depot/Lowes brand names are pretty good....but they can get clogged and the brushes inside sometimes need replacing. I suggest the warrenty, though Ive used mine for over 10 years. Its an indespensible tool in my shop. Great at quick trimming and quick grinding before final state or two of...
I dont think so....look at the enlargement: http://www.partsandtechnical.com/BPlowergreavedetail.JPG You can clearly see and make out the spur's thicker line. Follow the line representing the side of the greave all the way down (which the white arrow is pointing too & the red line is suggesting ...
lumpy "bag of marbles" Konstan, Im going to launch a new website dedicated to horrible armour in honor of that phrase. Well put. Anyway, I actually contend that the anvil can serve far more for planishing. I do a lot of planishing on the anvil surface and a tremendous amount of shaping wi...
I am toying with making a pair of greaves in the latter 14th century style. In artwork, Ive seen maybe one or two greaves like this with such a strongly protruding U shape at the lower edge (extending significantly beyond the edge over the back greave) ---but given the numbers, this feature seems ra...
I believe, from off the top of my head memory, that that helmet or a similar one is in THE SWISS AT WAR , one of the Osprey titles. Its a great profile image of a klapvisor at the very least.
Self taught....lots of experimentation. My advice: --most importantly: ASSUME NOTHING and do not immediately accept second hand (modern) interpretations as always being correct. --read any armour book you can find --read up on medieval technology, industry to understand capabilities (what they were ...
ah, I hear ya. Well I dont use the money or transfer until the item is shipped (in case of returns, folks who need to back out, etc). Its a comprimse between keeping customers as ease and ease of use. Okay, back on track.....
Ya know Gwen, thats honestly one of the reasons I had to abort two purchases from you guys. Happened once, than later on I was going to order some glassware and forgot you didnt take PP. I dont know how many people that may have happened to, but its worth giving PP another shot....I resisted for a l...
