Ive got a couple dozen pictures showing this slight curve...Ill post later today or tommorrow. Its not hard to make the curve....Im just curious as to how frequently it appears in the art: effigies, brasses etc. Another detail is how shaped the deltoids are...which is more common to see, but its sti...

Thoughts on late 14th/early 15th rerebraces/upper cannons
Ive been looking really carefully at more and more rerebraces/upper cannons lately and Ive started noticing something very subtle I had never picked up quite so much. On at least some effigies and brasses, there appears to be a very slight curvature along its length. This naturally makes some sense,...

Thanks for the acknoledgement and links. Yes indeed I wish someone like Historic Enterprises or Revival Clothin would emerge. I think I recall HE having some 16th and early 17th work but dropped the line of clothing? My theory, and I could be wrong, is simply that there are so many renn faire wannab...

Soupcans.....mmm, mmm good.
In star wars costuming, darth vaders spaulders are called...."bells" ...Ive asked and nobody has a clue where that name comes from. Similarly, Ive long wondered this....why are soupcan knees called soupcan knees? This and other mysteries like who pioneered carpet armour and why nipples app...

Yes, its very important to go back to basics. Honestly, every so often I will intentionally do a project that I feel is sort of below my skill now primarily because its important to keep your foundation skills sharp. Another thing Im sure Ive mentined before....if you are every wondering how to move...

Curiously.....there are a growing number of 14th and 15th century living history costume providers but the 16th and 17th century costume field seems to me, to be dominated by renn-faire/fantasy/casually accurate costume makers (ie, Museum Replicas). Who do serious living history members recommend as...

I'm honestly surprised they used wood lanthorns, instead of metal ones, given how disastrous a shipboard fire would have been, Hmm, indeed. Im not sure how many were actually found....that might be more telling.

Im betting its sunset eh Hal? Very orange hue in the pics. I will say this, we had to turn off the flash on the camera becuase we couldnt get a good photo with the reflective shine being what it is. With the flash on I got pure white-out....with the flash off, I got better lighting, but darker. Its ...

Are you making these for production? I had thought about doing that, but was going to use rawhide for the panes to keep the price down. Cat Well, I thought about it, probably some. Go ahead and make your own....seriously, if its a design in the public domain, youre welcome to give it a shot too. I ...

Well I bought some color remover for various projects. ....largely to redye them. But when Im done Ill post results. I dont think Ill get a bleached white look, but Ill be happy if I can simply tone down the current pea soup green and baby pink wool Ive got --enough so to redye them a different color.

Yeah I have a table with them as well. Its pretty sturdy, but does need some TLC every so often. The curious part is that it was made from a HUGE oak that was felled on Colvin Run mill in Leesburg VA. The mill was apparently one of George Washingtons Mills. The tree was not far from the mill....mayb...

I still dont understand why more people dont use staples and/or rings to hold lamellar together when there is sufficient evidence for this construction method (and extant pieces in various collections). Even if its not totally known as to have been used in a set region/era.... rings/staples make sen...
