Chaperone Hat: thoughts on those who have made one

I would like to make a chaperon hat....I think I understand the basics of the pattern, but would like any hints, tips, etc on making them. Im mainly curious about how the tail and "blossoming part" of the hat is stitched into the roll....is it just sort of sewn in there somehow or is there...

What I was getting at (but was on my way out of the door) is that you don't *have* to line it. As mentioned, not all garments were lined. Lining is good, and I think preferable, to hide seams, if you're wearing wool on wool, the lining will keep things from "sticking", as it were. But if ...

Well, linings served many purposes -- warmth, richness of display, fashion effect (aforementioned drape changes, especially wrt to pleats). Not all upper-class garments were lined as can be gleaned from a variety of wardrobe accounts, but many were, and at that, with fur. Velvet and silk served wel...

Hi Fulke You raise a really good question. I want to keep the cost down to a minium so Im not sure if it will be a super hard (yet not brittle) resin or fiberglassed with cloth. Well certainly sleeves where lined right?

Or are we looking at the tips of the sleeves?

I like the idea of lining...the garment seam more finished in a sense.

But I think the greater question is....what is the purpose of a lining should it exist?

First, thanks everyone for your thoughts. Andrew, if you've already sewn the shell, then your easiest technique would be to bag-line at this point. I agree about the folding art turning points, very true and this is partly the issue here. But I do believe that the mail does drape down somewhat. I think it's still pretty clear that it's longer in the front. Also, brasses were cheap forms of effigies! They were copying ...
