You really need a picture with your arms hanging straight down rather then tucked up like a T-rex. Something looks a little 'off' in the proportions but there is nothing to compare it to. A full body shot including straight arms and head would be clearer. Sean I agree. Its either sitting too low or...

Lets say I lived between 1200 and 1500....and Im on campaign. Im hungry, so we start cooking. Im a bit embarr...

ya know...as a member of several yahoo groups...

I have to say its sort of annoying.

Why not create a forum.....some free forum software is out there

and its much easier to navigate.

Also much easier to publicly draw in members who might not know about the yahoo group.

Dont get me wrong...I do think patterns are helpful. And I dont want you all to think Im against them for newbies. I am going to be making my late 16th century shoes partly because I just dont see anything that is historically accurate; for the exception of a great British maker, most everything else seems to be geared for the renn faires with modern soles, rubber etc..... I understand why, but I prefer historic...

Speaking for myself....Ill share most of my patterns. Only ones I keep to the business are those with respect to exact specs. But for general items, like cops, cuirasses etc...I have no problem. MAIL is not misleading. Except for a handful of Victorian writers, it has always been used to describe one type of armour. The word comes from the latin, maglia . It definitely does NOT translate as "net". They had several other words for net. Maglia more accurately describes the holes IN...

This is good for that... but then it comes down to one's search-fu. Stickied patterns wouldn't be too awful, either. Then they're there, and locked, and can generate ongoing discussion as new folks come on board. I certainly like patterns. They help me visualize 2d->3d. Eventually I won't need them...

If I may... Patterns will only take you so far. At some point, you begin to realize that a pattern is really just a rough sketch of what the piece will start off as. And with experience you realize that by adding a bit more here, little less there....the basic patterns you already see on the archive...

Just re-reading the thread. Would I be stoned if I said I like the term chain-mail? I like the term for two reasons. First, while seemingly redundant, its not really. Maile a net is woven...but can be done so in a variety of ways such that a piece of "fabric" could technically be a net in ...
