The thing is we don't have to rely on logical arguments about economics and social acceptance alone. There are quite a number of silk scraps in museums and shown in books. The silks I have seen in museums like the Met, and the L.A. County and books like the MOL textile book or books on italian dres...

shaohu Why bother raising it? Many high peak bascinets have clues that resonate with forge-welding and non-raised techniques have created strikingly authentic replicas today....with internal details that mirror the originals; thus making it hard to dismiss. Why not try forge welding it? Even if you ...

yes. That is exactly my period. The bells were to scare off enemy and to announce a victory when the army returned home. I do not believe the bells are attached with chains. I found no evidence of chains. I believe it is most likely braided raffia which is common to many African peoples. Hmm. Thats...

Re: RAW SILK....X post (sort of)

Dunno. I've always found the argument -- see m or m for a summary -- to be kind of, I dunno, specious? There existed a lower grade of silk that may have been used for lower-class clothing and ergo that's silk noil (what most people call "raw silk") and ergo that is PERIOD SO THERE. More p...

I think you're going to have difficulties, Mr Young. I've already gone through this frustration, at least for England. The table changed during the 16th century. I suspect the changes were reflections of changes in the home and household over that time. Where, in earlier centuries, the hall tables ...

not to hijack, but: I was looking at some of the armor on your site and I couldn't help but wonder how they'd stand up to SCA combat? Not a helm, of course, but for something that wouldn't get hit too often, if at all, like greaves. Hmm, not sure what you mean. You mean fiberglass stuff ? Fiberglas...

Was out of town for a few days...

Anyway, to answer the PMs and emails....the ideal price is between 350-400

which is VERY good considering its 1] a very comprehensive body armour
with 2] excellant lower torso protection, and 3] spaulders and 4] your choice of steel upper arms or steel cuisses.
