Its your opponents call ... In ansteorra almost all of our chivalry go by the following mantra ... "Throw hard ... call moderate/light". And if you have been playing long enough you know what to target if they wont call it. Usually targeting the un-armored muscular places does the trick (back of the...

Why do i fight? 1) Its fun 2) I really enjoy the escape from everything I have to deal with on a daily basis. When you take the field whether at practice or at an event you dont think about anything else. You concentrate on what you need to accomplish to win the match or the point. Everything slips ...

One thing I _can_ tell you is no matter HOW bad the training.. that several year jump on 18 makes them an absolute beast on the field the day after they turn 18. Maeryk I totally agree with that sentiment. If my son (13) keeps practicing he will probably be able to beat me by 18. It all comes down ...

The best thing to work on with kids is range, footwork, and a basic shot. The shots they throw when younger are not like the shots they will be throwing with rattan. Therefore the best thing for them to master is being in proper position when they get older. Also to make it fun try melees. 2 vs 3 or...

In ansteorra not only do you have to have your parents consent to fight with the heavies ... you also have to have consent to fight in ANY youth combat. Also your parent/guardian (or designated adult) must be within sight of you while you are fighting.

I think what it really comes down to is making sure the OTHER guy is having fun to. Things like "dieing aggressively" "walking through the opponents lines" "refusing to get up when dead because you are an obstical" are all lame ass excusses for getting caught up in the "win at all costs" mentality....

This is all about individual responsibility. Holding yourself accountable for your actions. From what i have seen in my meager (3 yrs) experience is that all fighters are honorable. My Lady was kind enough to take lots of pictures at Gulf Wars 14 this year and has posted them on her website. I thought everyone might want to take a look.

This Gulf Wars, when trying to get into the breach, we ran into about four scutums bottling up one doorway. I see Murdock (no not the one on this board, early Murdock), rap a couple of times with his sword and proclaim, "Hey, will you let us in? " This started the entire taunting every time we wait...

Funniest thing i remember was last year at GW 13 ... my boys (Duckie (19) and Ben (17) ) were running with Kaz the Sinister (Local shire Fighter). They were outside the at the fort battle and Ben broke into a XXX rated pole dance with his spear to taunt the Trimarians.

So basically if i go with Chain mail under a surcoat ... along with a bascinet and chain mail around the bottom of it, im right on for a 12C irish persona (influenced by the Normans).

This will work out awesome cause my wife is playing a transplanted norman in ireland.
