I dont think this person cares about armor. I dont think this person knows very much about it, nor does he seem inclined to wanna learn. I am forming the opinion that this person wants to make money off of people that dont know any better and as long as ignorance exists he'll do just that. Obviously...

Ok, picture my 9 year old. He's grown up surrounded by armor, in the tradition of the Tuchux. He's been fighting in his own armor since he was 7 years old and has helped me make assorted bits of armor over the years. He draws armor and is generally a fan. Pretty knowledgeable for a 9 year old really...

That depends. You wanna be generic? Offer the knees, elbows, gorget, helm , half gauntlet thingy. If you wanna be more historical, figure out a way to make a beginner helmet that looks like a period piece. If someone starting out wants to be a viking, make a viking helmet that is affordable. Make a ...

This is Batu's first kit. Two weeks after he fought for the very first time in my armor he stepped out onto the floor with this stuff. Plastic lamellar, which is badass, especially when you're stipulating a beginners kit. The rest i...

William I think getting away from the generic look is a great idea. Good luck with that. I'm still working on that too.

I'm the one in the shiny lamellar next to Dagar in the musculata.

Funny, you dont hear such fury and posturing about Adam Berry or Halberds... just to name two of many fine armorers. But then, their armor is nice. Just sayin. Another very apt example is Dalewyn. His stuff is beautiful.

"Reasonable attempt" You can use that term to blow off history and fight in whatever. You can use that term as a gateway to get started and make every effort YOU ARE AT THAT TIME CAPABLE OF and do yourbest, come out and play. Seems to me you're doing the latter. Dont apologize mate. Have fun and kee...

I think the problem a lot of people are facing and will continue to face is not necessarily apathy, but ignorance. When you're a new guy coming into the SCA you have a ton of visual influence around you. You have a ton of people around you and some of them are willing to help you get into armor. The...

What I figured was a long bolt or some all thread and a cap screw. I was gonna drill a dowel rod and put it over the threads as a handle. I redid the drawing with dimensions and emailed it to you. I also adjusted it so the bottom is a bit wider than the top to accomodate the bazubands. It might even...

I have not the first problem with someone trying to make their own kit an example for us all. In fact I go up to people at events all the time and drool on their armor. I personally love armor I can identify because it is distinctively Hunnic, or Roman, or Mongol, or 14th century specific to itself ...

Actually a dishing stump isnt all that hard to make. It helps though to have something sturdy to work the leather into because when you hammer the leather to form it it compresses the fibers. Makes the leather hold it's shape a lot better as you bake it. if your form is pitted you could sand the pit...

I agree they are beautiful. I'm curious though, does each individual piece of each finger have to contact the rattan, or could say the knuckle plates contact and have the pieces inbetween not? Seems like this would cut down on bulk.

mos waxed leather wil soften in the heat. If it's waxed you want, check out thorvaldr. His stuff is sweet. I cant testify as to it's longevity in heat but it's supposed to be tops.
I use water hardened leather in my stuff and can attest to it's quality.

I use a stump to dish into. Batu made it for me with a circular saw. He said it took him like a minute to do it. It's worked for everything I've made so far. I just use a ball pein hammer to dish with too, I havent gotten one of Dan's way cool Japanese dishing hammers yet. Someday... :)
