If I were to put the chin part onto a gorget I'd dish it pretty deeply so the chin fit down into it. The curve would fit the jawline better and it would also add strength to the piece. Just a thought :)

I would also make the front more substantial than the back, referring to the part on the chest. Most of the blows are gonna come fro the front, and it's the fact that the part is braced on the chest that alleviates a lot of the force from the blow from the neck itself.

Brannos I appreciate your willingness to evaluate such a weapon rather than deal with it in a knee jerk fashion. Right now transportation is an issue but when that's resolved I'll be headed down. I've heard nothing but good about you and your practices and cant wait to get there and meet you and eve...

Ok, I heard back from Brannos. He said he thought it would be cool if I tried the weapon out at the local workout here and got their feedback on it. So Hrolfr if you're still up for welding it I'm good to go!

Upload your photo to photobucket.com. Then you'll see a button that says edit picture. Click on that and scroll down to where it will show you options for resizing your picture. Shrink it that way, then click on the botton option "Img". Copy that, paste it into the window here for your reply and it ...

Where did you find the stamped brass fittings? They're beautiful! I've got my Mongol bowcase stitched up and ready for the last coats of laquer but it's kinda plain. Some of the brass fittings like that would be great!
Thanks!

You betcha -Cut out the pattern adding about 2" all around to account for shrinkage If you arent boiling the leather it wont shrink. -I would guess that one would have to soak the leather overnight to increase its pliability ...

I wear cleats. I dont claim they're like hobnails. I've had shoes with hobnails and I never made that association. I wear my cleats when I fight on grass because of a foot drop I have. Residual paralysis and all that. When I walk on grass without them my ankle rolls all over and it's not only painfu...

I've said it time and time again. A lot of SCA people dont go to SCA events to be medieval. They go to be SCA people. Nothing wrong with that. If that's not your trip then console yourself that your camp is way cooler than theirs is and your armor iwas way cooler than theirs is. If they dont wanna l...

You should reserve the field one day at pennsic and put out a call for all mongols to show up along with all teutonic knights. Or all romans against all dacians or all belgae, that sort of thing. or huns. And make sure the teutonic knights look the part or they cant play. Same with the rest. Could b...

Ceddie you make a good point. There are as you pointed out, different types of peer pressure. I've been doing the same thing you just illustrated among our guys. Trying to up the quality of armor by educating dogs, helping them to make better armor, or in some cases just making it for them. When I u...

Everyone has their own version of the game we all play. What chaps my ass is when folks try and imply their version is the only valid version and pull high school crap like peer pressure to advance their own personal agendas. That's just weak.

The reason I said that is because the contention had been made that they werent carried on the arm, but on a strap around the neck. That struck me as rather odd.

Very telling point, if a 120lb shield fell over while it was strapped to my neck it would at least expose me to a spear and at worst drag me to the ground pinning me.
It just doesnt make sense. Still.
