I'd call it a representation of the pattern, this looks to me like a miniature, so 54mm scale?? It isn't a representation of the pattern. The iconographical evidence shows no gaps between the plates. The whole point of scale armour is to overlap the plates. Robinson's suggestion does not do this. L...

Mongols didnt use polearms that I've been able to see. So I figured a spear would be the best thing. But dueling with a spear in an SCA context is very limiting because you cant slash with it. So i figured if I made a 7.5' polearm like the slashing spear By My Hand had at pennsic it would be better....

SCA polearm question?
How long does a polearm head have to be? I havent made one in years and I'd like to be able to use it at SCA stuff, not just our events. Thanks for the help!

I could be wrong here, but in making rivetted mail the only drilling you'd be doing is if you spun your rings on a drill. I did it that way for years, no worries. If you keep it during daylight hours you wont offend your neighbors doing that. As for punching the holes, there are tongs for that I thi...

ok, here's my take on this. For whatever it might be worth. Making mail, butted welded or rivetted, is a lot of work. Labor intensive. No matter what style you choose to make it's gonna take time and effort. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, why not learn to make it correctly? IMO rivetted mail is ...

Mord Tim found just what I need. Thanks though, you rock! Tim the belt you say is definitely medieval is exactly cool. What would something like this cost? A belt like this would be better than what I had planned. Kinda cool as I started stitching up my new bowcase today. Thanks for looking into this!

This is the best I could get the picture to turn out. The details arent the point. Justthe shape really. The surface could be smooth as long as it's silver or pewter and I can mount it on a strap. Depending on how it would go I'd b...

Thank you guys for the compliments. Most kind of you to recognize the hard work we've been doing. Great gu...

Dalewyn that happened to me yesterday. I got hit on the thigh and a moment or two later it started to sting. I stopped and acknowledged the blow and apologized for the delay. That happens from time to time. Dunno why. Never been a big deal though. Most of the time people just laugh and the fight goe...

Nah. Business is business and should be public. By replying both armorers were able to show not just the customer they have now that they were honorable and working on the orders in question, but future customers as well. Good business men have nothing to worry about when their names are spoken. It'...

I dunno if this is the right place to post this, but I was looking for something like this. It's supposed to hang off the belt and a chain comes from the bottom to a fire starting kit or a chopsticks/knife kit. It doesnt have to...

If I'm not sure a shot was good theres a reason. Now, no one's perfect, everyone misses shots once in a while. But I think a lot of the problems associated with calibration issues are a matter of intent. If you're consistent in your calibration both giving and getting people will know your intent is...

I dont die to slop and I certainly dont expect you to. However the only time I'm gonna insist you dont take a shot is if I know I threw it flat. Otherwise it's up to you. My patent response to someone asking me what I thought of a blow that landed to them is 'It's your call'. I'll let someone know t...

Its the same in my experience. I'm very fortunate with the ratio of guys I bring in staying as opposed to the ones that dont. But still, out of 5 people that try it maybe 2 stick. And you know what, that's fine. The ones that stick are the ones that want it. I'd rather have ten guys with heart than ...

It's quite a bit lower actually. I'm used to giving and getting quite a bit harder shots. I dont have a problem though, the people local to me are not only skilled but very honorable and have been working with me every time I go fight them. As for a uniform standard, no. Because people get used to t...

Talk to people you are fighting with. Get their input. I just moved to an area that has different expectations of calibration and while its different it's not impossible. Talk to your opponents. Get them to give you a shot they're used to getting kills with. That should at least give you an idea. Ad...

I dunno a thing about lasts but I do know that if you work at it forming the leather with tools isnt that hard. I learned from Uilleag and he showed me how to form leather using dishing forms, stakes and balls. I've found that it's exactly what I need to make the armor I do. I also cut things right ...
