WHen I teach a new fighter I start with simple basics and let them move around for a bit. If they show tendencies towards a certain method or another I'll start them along those lines. I teach them mainly techniques with which to hit people with rattan sticks. However, with a mind towards the realit...

Dan the only meridians I've dealt with have been at pennsic for the most part, but if you represent them then I have no problems with them. You've always fought me with honor and great skill.
No worries.

I understood what you meant, , no worries. I think the point isnt a universal standard, but more of an awareness on the part of the person getting hit. I know for a fact that I dont require as hard of a shot to kill me as some people. I know for a fact it takes a harder shot to kill me. By kill, I m...

I dont recall a buckler on this weapon but I believe you. If I ever get around to making one I wont use the buckler bit though. I think this one would be fine all on it's own. I just gotta figure out how to put a piece of rattan coming off the front like that.

There is no reason that you cant have both. Put together a great kit that looks good and functions well then TRAIN in it to get good. I'm far from gods gift to fighting or armor but I do ok in both areas without any sort of conflict.

Ok, at some point that weapon had to conform to their weapons standards, right? When did it become unsafe? If it passed their inspection it seems that either the person using the thing was excessive or the armor the guy was wearing was insufficient.
Just makes sense to me.

Better ask first why the pre period celts are using o dachi or heater shields. Or why vikings are using polearms. If one isnt acceptable then the other surely isnt. Remember when we were kids and we'd pour all of what was left of all the cereal boxes into one box? SCA fighting is a lot like that. Yo...

The weapon was admired by everyone at the workout though. They all agreed that such things are good because they add to the realism of what we're trying to do. Everyone agreed that it was a very well made weapon that needed more weight to make it perfect.

Alaric I was responding to Robert but your case is valid as well. I realize that armor in no way protects you from every circumstance no matter if you're 'dead' or actively defending, and I've been in the situation where you cant fall down and people keep hitting you. My armor worked fine. Now, armo...

I'll say this. You know in your heart if you cheated. You know if you didnt. Everyone misses a blow once in a while, that's no big deal. But you know damn well if you cheated. Those of you that can live with that, to hell with you.
