I got fingers from Clay and put my own gauntlet together. It's all I use when I'm using my saber or mace. Not a problem. Although I did beef up the thumb tip with some help from Mike F. Eventually I'll get the other one put together, but since I mostly use a saber and shield the need hasnt been pres...

Ah yes, the early SCA, before religion was tossed aside and replaced with ninja's, vampires, Tuchux and pirates... Though they did have elves Ah yes, the early days, before the freon tanks were replaced by sticks up the asses of several notables. I dont understand why you must continually be disres...

Honestly I'm not dead set on the lead idea. It just seemed a lot more do-able than the alternatives. I'm looking into brewers pitch though. I just got the itch to try this out. Some of the most beautiful stuff Ive ever seen was repousse'. I can draw it, I'm just dying to know if I can do it in metal...

Ugo you help all the time actually. You and Hal, WMA, Other folks too that I cant name that show such greatness and act as the example to aspire to. I'm gonna start simple, maybe try and do a nice Tuchux symbol or something. I think I can do this though. What do y'all think about starting on hobby s...

Thanks for the tips! I doubt I'll have anything worth taking pics of but I see the beautiful work posted on here and I just gotta try it out. I've done faces in very thin metal before, I just set the piece on a bit of foam and embossed into it with leather working tools. That was ju7st to see if I c...

Question about repousse'
I've decided to get a bunch of fishing weights and melt them into something to pound metal designs into. I cant find pitch or tar or whatever but every store around me sells lead weights. ( a benefit of living on a lake I suppose ) My question is what should I melt the lead into that I can pound met...

Ya know, if you wanna play this game there are a few concessions you make. Things like basket hilts and bargrills can disappear if you're digging the spirit of what's going on. If you'd rather be a pissy bitch then by all means complain away. And if you see yourself in this and wanna type mean thing...

I think that kinda goes without saying really. I mean, anything well maintained is gonna look better than something not well maintained. My point was more about the attitudes I see from some folks that seem to think that unless you walk out onto the field with a full suit of whatver you shouldnt eve...

How you look is a choice that no one can make for you. It depends on what you're willing to do and what you arent. Obviously not everyone has the means to put together a real nice kit, hard or soft, and that's not a crime or a sin. There is NOTHING WRONG with fighting in what you have while working ...

Yah, I agree. She's awesome indeed. She didnt know me from adam yet she made me welcome and took good care of me during the transaction. Made me happy to have spent my money not only for the awesome boots, which by the way are the best boots I've ever fought in so far, but also for the care I was gi...

Werent some kozane made from leather then laquered? Sort of, rawhide was used in place of leather. Small difference, I know, but significant when you consider the whole piece over all. Also kozane IMHO should not be considered lamellar, since the plates are firmly laced and laquered into "bands" th...

I dont have a problem with the fighter I'm against demands perfect technique to acknowledge a blow. That's how the top guys around here do it and I'm learning to give them what they need. As long as the guy I'm up against has no problems with me expecting the same quality from them. if you wanna fig...

Roak he didnt have armor on. I remember that event Targeting something that is ouchie isnt a big deal. If it's a legal target and you dont bother to armor it you're asking for whatever you get. IMO it's all about the intent. If someone cracks me a good one and I gotta sit down for the day that's par...

I get it Jamie and you could be right. One thing I'll continue to maintain is that it's always the retaliation that gets you sent to the box. Here's a question. What happens when you see someone at an event or workout that is clearly dangerous and out of control? I've got two examples in mind I was ...

Werent some kozane made from leather then laquered? I was also under the impression that some mongolian and tibetan lamellar was both leather and iron. I dont imagine any survived, seeing how leather rots and all, but I still think I've read where leather lamellar was indeed used. I'm still looking ...

"Animal- for years and years the ability of the Tuchux to comply with the rules of the list for SCA combat was spotty at best. There are long memories of injuries past or behavior that was careless enough of the safety of others to really tick people off. It looks like that has gotten better of late...

I've always said, just because it touched you doesnt mean it killed you. Theres a guy here, Straum. I can hit him in the head just about when I feel like it. Thing is, he pulls his head back as I do. It touches, but it's insufficient. Drives me crazy, but not that he does it. What drives me nuts is ...
