That's what I'm doing. The leg parts are separate from the foot parts. I'm turning the upper leg parts, then turning the lower foot parts then stitching them together. The uppers are thick leather, and tall so it's a bitch. I think I can do it though. Thanks Johann for taking the time. ANy other tip...

I didnt like wax hardening because it wasnt reliable in the heat. If your armor is in your trunk on the way to a fight it gets soft in summer. It gets soft when you fight in the sun. I like water hardening much better. I havent had a problem with that yet.

These are the components of the boots, minus the soles. So far I have one pair of calf parts sewn together inside out, soaking. The foot parts wont be hard to turn at all, but the leg parts are gonna be a bitch.

Yah, we got the toe thing figured out. The entire thing is one big turnshoe. It's just that the upper is so tall it's gonna be a pain to turn. I'm soaking it now.

Dont let the leather dry out too much. It'll crack. As for straps, you want supple straps right? 6 to 8 oz is fine for that.

I have the first uppers stitched together and soaking now. Even wet I see this is gonna be a real chore. As for the wearing them dry part that's not the way these boots are formed. They're supposed to be real stiff. The cool thing is a friend of mine is making me the thick felt socks that go inside ...

Anyone ever turn a boot?

So I *FINALLY* got help and figured out the toe thing for the holy grail, er, I mean the boots I want. Gonna have welts, cool soles and the TURNED UP TOE! Yay!. Doing the lower part isnt gonna be hard at all. But turning the leg part looks to be a hot buttered bitch! Anyone ever do it? Are there any...

I love Mongol stuff. So i fight with a saber or mace, with a small center gripped round shield. Sometimes I use a spear. To be honest I care a lot more these days about looking like what I'm supposed to be than I do about being a hot stick. I love the fight, always have, always will. But because of ...

Just out of curiosity, how much success have you all had using a mace on the field? I know in period a mace would be a very effective weapon, but in our game with swords that can slice through "anything" why go for a weapon that is not going to give the clang that many people expect? Do you enjoy t...

Fact is, if you wanna be japanese and look japanese you'll fight with what the japanese fought with. If you wanna be successful in rattan combat you'll either work REAL hard at that or switch to something else.

I was well over 400 pounds at one point. Now I'm about 280 shooting for 250. I dont think I hit terribly hard unless I want to. But when I want to I still can. Fat is the enemy of fighting. Not weight. Muscle is heavier than fat. If I were all muscle I could be 300lbs and still be happy.

I could only get one of them to load, the one where you were fighting the lefty on his knees. It was hard to tell, but did you throw one offside shot on him? Lefties FEAST on us with that shot, but it works just as well on them too. Try it out.

There is a separation in the SCA. It pertains to a lot of things but in this case calibration. I noticed when I moved here that the 'big gins' need to be hit *JUST* so. The 'rank and file' types take a lot wider range of shots. I'm using this as a basis for my own calibration now. I've spoken to som...

Whatever armor you feel comfortable fighting in is fine by me. If you choose not to wear it it will hurt when I hit you. If you can deal with that then good on ya. Your armor doesnt kill me, your weapon does. Any 'advantage' you might think you gain by wearing less is in your mind and of no concern ...

Ya know, I've seen Nissan exhibit a lot of things over the years. Arrogance, brutality, kindness, explosive gas... but never fear.
Just sayin.
Anyhow, I get an MRI this wednesday that'll tell me a lot about whether I'll be able to fight in this shindig. Think good thoughts, ok?
Thanks.
