Ratty got me a draw knife off the internet. I use a bowyers knife. The handles are in line with the blade. I use it to shape all my handles with. Either drawing towards you or going away from you, if you keep it nice and sharp it will go through rattan real nice. I use my draw knife on a lot of thin...

Yah, the funny thing is you look around our camp and you see my old shit on at least a dozen people :) The skull pauldrons that Kronos wears were mine. I teased him for years and said how I wanted to gbe buried in them. He said he'd dig my dead ass up and take them anyway :)

So I got all inspired after I put Conor down for a nap and went and finished that gadling. It's the wrong size but it curved around right. Ratty is still insisting on buying the fingers like Tarkhans, fearing trips to the ER, but I'm gonna still mess with this. It's cool to learn. She said a wisdom ...

I'm gonna try that.
What do you cut metal with? I'm using a zip saw and it cuts real well but I'm having trouble keeping the lines straight. I dunno if I wanna invest in a harbour freight shear or something like that.

I recently picked up a trick for making thrusting tips last from a buddy of mine. I went to a fabric store and got a remnant of silk. I cut two strips of silk and X'ed them over the thrusting tip foam, then strapping taped it good and tight. I've yet to lose one since I started doing that.

Well, I went back and tried a gadling. Mike, I took your advice and cut a small dish into the stump and dished the gadling into it. It's still a bit twisty, but I'm learning how the metal moves a little bit.
I'll figure this out eventually.

Heheh dont get me wrong. Ratty is nothing but supportive of me in anything I ever try and do. But she's also honest. Those of you that know her are undoubtedly imagining her smiling at me, patting me on my head and saying 'dont worry, we'll just get the fingers. You make the leather part real good.'...

Well, Ratty saw the stuff I was making, ok. Trying to make. Then she looked at the stuff Tarkhan got from the guy that made his fingers. She compared the cost of said fingers to the potential co-pays for the emergency room and said "Honey, we'll get you fingers, dont worry about it." I just cant ma...

Yah, I think I saw that same tutorial. The only bad thing about that is I'm cutting this metal with a zip saw. I dunno if I could run that on something already shaped. I'll have to see when I get that far. I dunno if I'm gonna be able to do the pyramid shaped thingy. We'll see :)

I made a finger plate! Its far from perfect, but I cut it out of 16ga steel and formed it in a channel I made in my dishing stump.I'm gonna try and make a gadling next. Actually I'm making the fingers out of metal and the reast out of leather. I'm gonna try and make the tips of the fingers touch the haft of the weapon and see where it goes from there. I've not done a lot witn metal so I might just be wasting my time. But I got it to waste, so why not :)

Water and heat harden leather real well. I'm sure polyurethane would seal it but I'd think that would make it brittle and might crack.
If you soak the leather, shape it, then bake it you'll find it gets quite hard.

If you really want constructive help I suggest that you take your time and redraw your pattern. Dimension it out and clean it up so it's camera ready. This would make it a lot easier to tell you anything about it. Insane Irish made some drawings for a helmet that Beathan made and the drawings were v...
