Source for horn for period arrow inserts

Can anybody direct me to a source of horn to use for nock inserts for period arrows? I've been using hardwood, but I'm having problems with it splitting when I try to trim it and I'd like to try horn.

Period patterns' Military garments no. 2 has a "lentner" in it. To me this looks pretty close to the surcote (aketon, jupon, whatever) on the black prince's effigy, and the repro hanging up over his tomb. I like it. Sir John Chandos wore a surcote that was short in the front, but long in the back. T...

Alcy has the right of it. I've never seen illustrations of the chains going through a hauberk though. The illustrations I've seen the chains are attached to the body armour, and if a hauberk was worn it was underneath the body armour.

I probably have close to $2,000.00 invested over the past three years. But...that's because I put a kit together.....decide I don't want to fight.....sell the kit.....regret selling it.....start buying a new kit......etc etc...... I've done that twice now. I was thinking free fall as in outer space, first in an enclosed environment such as a space station etc, then when shot in the vacuum...open space. Interesting insight Lu Shan! Arrows do spring to the left then correct to the right...then kind of oscillate before they hit the target. And with no ai...

An Arrow question

I've been chewing on this a bit lately. For you physics types....what would an arrow do in Free Fall?? First assuming that it's shot in air, then assuming it's shot in vacuum. Assume about a 45 lb draw on the bow in question, and infinite amount of space for the arrow to do it's thing. -------------...

Ladies' Stirrup pants or Leggings to simulate hosen, Ankle high turnshoe boots, a linen St Louis tunic, and a gambeson. I point the shoulders and arms to the gambeson. Tried pointing the legs but it didn't work as well.

A friend showed me thi...

The most important tip I learned about leather work: NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER make a single cut on your leather until you have a workable and reliable pattern for what you want to make.. Fool around with the pattern on paper, or card stock, or poster board first. You'll be happy you did!
