Sportsman's Guide has 'em in and out of stock. You gotta catch 'em when they just got a bunch. The nice thing about waiting for them is the price....only 20 bux.

I used to use a pair of Ron Simmons elbow cops that I tied onto my arm with leather lacings. I drilled four holes...two on each side of the fan, and one on each corner on the other side. I then put the two ends of a LONG lacing through the holes on the fan side, across the elbow and through the two ...

Ironmonger.....I run into this attitude with my local group every time I buy something out of the norm for the group. "Oh that won't work because..." what they're really saying is "that's different from what I'm used to and I don't know anything about it and it makes me feel threatened that I can't ...

Camail or Aventail?
I'm wondering which is the proper term for the mantle of maille attached by vervelles to 14th C Bascinets. I've read and heard it referred to as both "camail" and "aventail". Which is correct or are the terms interchangeable?

Massa G at GAA armouries is selling Torse, Mantle, and crest kits for about 5 bux a pop. He has several different ones available and when I asked if he could add a wolf's head he said they're very adaptable and although you may buy one that's a horse for example the crest can be adapted for whatever...

Have you thought about trying roofing nails as your "rivets"? Instead of punching holes in the fabric they will tend to seperate the weave when you push them through leaving the fabric intact. You cut off the excess and pean the shaft like a rivet. RJ Leahy sells several different types. Might be an...

I have this pattern, the other military pattern, and the cotehardie pattern. I can't attest to the accuracy historically, but they do make nice looking garments. I made my gambeson from the pattern in the other set of military garments and it made up a very nice foundation garment. One word of warni...

Movie Armour Question
I rented "Knights of the Round Table" with Robert Taylor the other night. The armour was a mixture of periods but looked like it was real steel. Does anybody know who made the armour for this movie? Care to comment on the armour?

I doubt we will see any plate from the 100 years war period with bodkin holes. Why? Because we don't see very much intact armour from this period in the first place let alone holed armour. Now, consider the armour of the Crecy time period. There was some plate, yes, but there's a reason this is call...

I'm using 1" latigo saddle strings. (dunno if they're still strings at that width). I punched holes almost clear up to where the straps mount so I could cinch it way down when I'm ready to fight, then let it back out to carry it. I used the left and right corners as my attachment points. Oh! This is...
