I'm planning on going and looking forward to visiting with Alail and Dmitriy again and meeting the rest of you. Dunno if I can get myself authorized by then, but if I can I'd be honored to help you make that 25 Christian. If not I'll be on the sidelines cheering you on. ------------------ Emm aye se...

Edward Plantagenet known in later period as "The Black Prince". I'd talk to him about EVERYTHING from what it was like to be in the front ranks at Crecy at the age of 16 to how he felt about his men, to his leadership philosophy, to chivalry, and the order of the garter. ------------------ Emm aye s...

Gotta link to a copy of this pic online? I'm suspecting the "Turbans" are hoods and liripipes worn as a head covering with the face opening worn on the head and the liripipe wrapped around it with the dagging left to hang and look very spiffy. Done this m'self. http://webpages.charter.net/nolead/the...

RE T Bob's post about a test..... I would love to help with this too. We need to establish a few parameters. What gauge steel for the bascinet? What poundage on the bow to be used? I think 80 lbs was about the average in period with some archers able to draw 120 lbs. Shall we limit the bow to a long...

IMHO the price is a bit steep for what one gets. By shopping around various armourers (and in one case doing a trade) and making a COP from scratch (still working on it *sigh*)I put a nice kit together that includes steel arms, and greaves and sabatons for right at 500 bux. Granted....this kit liste...

A technique for holding stuff together whilst you drill and
OK.....armouring is basically working with sheet metal. You work it differently than the average sheet metal guy does but it's basically sheet metal. There are these really cool devices that you can use to hold things together while you drill and rivet. No...they aren't vice grips or clamps....they'...

Trebuchet!! Definately! You might want to check with Clay (prince of darkmoor) as I believe he has built a Treb. I built a small one (about 3' X 3') with my daughter last year as a physics project. We had a BLAST "testing" it in the front yard. The assignment was to fling an egg for accuracy and dis...

I know zilch about favors in period. Don't even know if they actually were used in period or if they are an invention of those naughty Victorians like so much else about the middle ages that we accept as gospel, but I'm reading "Chivalry" by Keen and "Tournaments" by Barber and Barker so I hope to f...

Effingham mentioned mounted archery contests. The archery was something to see. When I was in the Navy I spent a couple of weeks in Japan waiting for my ship. I got a chance to take a day off and go to a Yabusame (mounted archery) festival at Kamakura. It was really cool! Contestants were in period ...

Archery Supplier
I've been wanting to jump into the arrow making market, but I need to find a wholesale supplier for parts. I've been buying from FS Discount Arrows, but if I use them my prices will have to be up around 35 bux a dozen for target arrows. Do any of you know of a cheaper, closer to wholesale, supplier ...

I've read this passage before. I can see where the "thick cassocks of felt" could break up the energy of an arrow to the point where it wouldn't spread the maille when it got that far. An arrow's effect on maille depends a lot on the head. This passage makes me wonder what type of head the Saracens ...

Pembridge style great helm or bascinet! Bascinet's are beautiful. You can wear several different type visors with them, and you can hang a very attractive aventail off the bottom. A sallet is later period and usually worn more with full plate if I'm not mistaken. ------------------ Emm aye sea kayee...
