Thanks Galileo But I sent Sean an e-mail all his own...Passed on from Glen, of course. You told me to hold of sending them for a few weeks, now you are picking on me.... M...

Armourers selling at Penssic

Hi folks. I just got an odd request from a customer that has bought so much stuff off me in the last few years that I am about ready to make him the Riverforge poster-boy. Having built him (and his friends) some really nice harness.....He now tells me he wants a travelling harness for when he flies ...

9/10's of the smoke produced by a coal forge is at the beginning when you light a small woodfire and then add the coal. After that the "smoke" is an invisible heat-haze sort of effect. I would recommend the coal fired version of a forge. Especially for beginners. Take a truck-wheel (no tire). Get a ...

Chrome tanned utility sounds okay. You might want to ask them whether they were hot-washed to reduce the lanolin. The price seems very high. I pay no more then $10aus per hide. This is achieved by contacting the tannery directly and asking them to put aside X number of seconds for a while. It can ad...

I use sheepskin in all padding applications with the exception of helms (and I know someone that uses it *there* too). The sheep is not as hot as closed cell foam because air can circulate between the fibres. It also doesn't get slimy the way that closed cell does. You will not smell like a wet shee...

ummmm....The metal has to go somewhere. All you are doing by countersinking your rivets is setteing them so that the hole is in the centre of a stamped depression of the same depth as the rivet head. No. In my opinion they aren't worth it because the depth of jaws means that you cannot always put a slot where you need it. I just use the round punch to punch either end of my slots and then "connect the dots" with a jigsaw or coping saw. I prefer having the rounded ends on slots because the rivet ...

Disregarding the stuff that goes on at the neck of both styles *most* of the time (in other words it is not a defining characteristic), An armet has a single visor and two trap-door cheeckplates that swing outwards (on the hinge at the side of the helm pictured). That is a repouse hammer. It is designed and tempered for lots of little, really lightwreight, hits. It is to tap on chasing tools (like blunt chisels of various different shapes). It would not survive being used for hitting armouring metal directly. The temper on these things is very hard bit very ...

I see it going with the subtle end of maximillian plate (there is a such a thing, but you have to look hard). Ball bearings of that size tend to come form heavy industrial suppliers or ship-yards. I recommend the use of mill-balls...but you may not have too much more luck finding those. The rpoblem with an equaly weighted ball-pien hammer is that the ball on those hammers is still too small a diameter to sp...

The reason to change the side plates sooner rather then later is that as the side-plate holes stretch you start to introduce the punch to the die at odd angles. You basically need to work too hard and are killing the punch by driving it into the side wall of the die. This means that your punches wil...

Like a small linisher or belt sander that is as portable as a 4" angle grinder. It uses narrow belts and spins them form the motor in the hand-piece to the wor-wheel on the end of the arm. I think he mentioned that it is a display suit. Properly chisel raised features from one plate. The lower lying areas are painted black. Your idea of over-rivetting a plate to get a similar effect is trickier then it looks. Try it on some test pieces frist. You will find that matching dished curves ...
