Re: Ok, what would stop me (or any one else)
I got to thinking about the "explaining SCA blow calling" thread, and got to wondering, aside from my good intentions and honor, what would stop me from entering crown list and just shucking blows till i got a crown on my head? Now I have to be able to throw a blow that wont be shucked, which I'm c...

If someone enters Crown, and is blatantly cheating, it is within the Crown's right to throw them out on the spot (actually they can throw anyone out for anything they like pretty much). And yet, I've never heard of this being done, let alone seen it done; perhaps banning them in future Crowns, but ...

Two Words: Ducal Perogative I'm curious - what does 'Ducal Prerogative' mean in your neck of the woods? I know what it meant originally and know what it means in 'Eastern Rite' kingdoms (East, Æthelmearc, I'm pretty sure Atlantia and the Middle as well), and neither of those definitions seem to...

So now rather than dodging out of a thrust, I just start turning my head sideways so you don't hit me in the face, but rather the ear. Now your butterfly kiss is no good. So next time you gank me, and wether I turn my head or not, I still have whiplash. The way that some kingdoms (including my own)...

Sooo..... Thrusts to the face are supposed to be much lighter. General consensus seems to be that this was done because when you gank a chap in the face with a 9' spear you knock his head backwards giving him whiplash. OK. So... Assume everyone jumps on the bandwaggon and now all face thrusts are b...

wow. That's a long list. Are Atlantian lists typically so...=gulp= big? Or is it just because this list is for War King? I don't know how big your Crown Tourneys are, but that's right about average for a (recent) AEthelmearc Crown, regardless of if it's for a summer or winter reign - low-/mid-20s, ...

As was posted previously, there is no Society standard for blade length, either independent of or related to overall weapon length. Æthelmearc has a maximum blade length of 1/3 of the overall length of the weapon, but that's only been in place the past 5 years or so, and could be changed at the ...

There is the weapon issue as well. Greatweapon or polearm and I'm keeping my distance. Sword and board . . . Greetings! I myself have never been to Meridies, but I do have a few friends for that area (HUA Shadow Legion!!!) From my observance at Pennsic and Talking to those I know from the area. Yes Calibration is lighter in Meridies than in pretty much any other Kingdom. Just as Calibration in Atlantia is...

In An Tir, where our Crown Lists are generally 100+ a list would be impractical. Are we putting odds on the names? I always wondered why someone with sort of a rogue persona didn't do that. Years ago Brian Price sold solid fiberglass shield blanks- they weighed a TON. You don't need to edge a fiberglass-covered wooden shield. Just round the edges of the shield a bit with a file. Resulting edge is not damaging to our weapons. Looks much more period. That is the method my squire Ingram ...

I am a bit curious as to opinions from the older SCA members. I was taught to fight by 2 old time Ansteorian Knights. They hit hard, and so I learned to hit like they did. I disagree on the concept of wearing a heavier helm. The reason is that people generally flinch there head and neck when a shot comes in. The more mass your head and neck have to maintain while off center will cause greater strain and potential injury. A lighter helm will reduce the strain on the n...

The division, good Sir, comes from the law of diminishing returns. If one is subject to disc compression issues, a heavier helm is problematic. I was fighting in a 12 pound close helm until recently.
