Oh. I guess I'll get rid of my steel greaves, sabatons and mail spats. I didn't realize they offended you just because I had sweat pants on underneath. No problem, I'll switch to leather.

Sure it is. Mail underwear and plate cod pieces are depicted in many illustrations and there are extant cod pieces, long skirted armour for foot combat, long mail hauberks, etc.

I am sorry to hear that you are retiring Ron, but I wish you luck in your other endeavours. A lot of people have metal armour instead of plastic because of your efforts to provide affordable armour as well as do it yourself kit components. I hope your successor does well too.

For the sheer majesty of the form? The European bastard sword with cruciform quillons.

For effectiveness in the SCA and still having fun? Sword and shield.

For tournament fun against a matched weapons opponent? European great sword.

There are two things you could do that would probably work fine:

1) Sandblasting.

2) Roll the mail in a barrel of sand. This could take a very long time.

Depending on the specific type of stainless an how hard it is, you might need to use a stronger abrasive than sand.
