Wrong answer. My beloved ancestor William the Conqueror was king not by right of arms, but by right of birth. He merely used his arms to enforce that right!

You have to sign the known world petition against combat archery that is on its way to the board.

The alternative is to bribe the editors.

Jester, I did not say you had to. In fact, the main point of this thread is for people who think we should do something else or to modify what we do to allow for something other than grand melee to express what they want. I did express my opinion that I prefer to stay with grand melee in the SCA, bu...

Nope. I did not drop my weapon. He grabbed it and disarmed me. I simply did not put up an intense struggle to stop him from succeeding (which is what I usually do). Vermin. Do not think for even a second that I am in favor or war. I am not. It is my wish however, to be fair and reasonable. Since many in the SCA want to do war and some kingdoms already try in their own way to do it, I view it much like combat archery. We can either work to get rid of it (not a b...

Vermin, you always manage to make me laugh! I like the wheelock based mortars, but I think I would rather have Mons Meg. Tournament or War? Forget what is is, what should it be?

Sarnac's orginal thread was great. So now we have all said what we think it is. What should it be? 1) Should the SCA reenact wars in addition to tournaments/grand melees? 2) If Yes: a) Should we keep the existing rules and not change a thing? b) Should the SCA work to have society wide rules or shou...

I almost always assume that if someone is grabbing my polearm haft, that they are trying to take it away from me. Having had people rip it away in melee (Pennsic) and then try to whack me really hard while I pick it up, I have learned to not let go easily in a grand melee format. Even in singles, I ...

I have always had mixed emotions about women fighting. The SCA made that issue simpler for me by simply allowing women to fight. From a modern perspective I don't want any form of discrimination and therefore women should be allowed to fight. At the same time I cringe every time I see a little woman...

In the SCA single combat list, unlike in SCA melee, an unarmed opponent is considered defenseless and my not be struck. Therefore, if I disarm my opponent I am in no position to ask him to yield, as I technically have no advantage. I may have demonstrated a specific technique, but I have not won the...

I agree. Songwriters who dabble in French should be held to the same demanding standards that those who write in English ascribe to.

Otherwise many classics by Nirvana might have been written with such poor grammer and structure that it would have distracted the listener from the intended message.
