It certainly isn't behaviour to admire, and that is something knights are supposed to be; admired." Warning: 15th Century English Knight Rhetoric and Hyperbole: He did not kill his ow...

I know Irish and I agree with what you are saying. Researching American Indian history is very much the same, Oral histories, a lot of guesswork. My point is that written accounts from the period may be wrong or show a bias of an ethnic/cultural/regional/personal/religious/etc. nature, but at least ...

OK. Yes I am sensitive to the idea that modern folk were offended in a modern recreation. I don't want anybody to be unhappy. That being said, the SCA and the combat archers created the problem by forcing CA upon the fighting population and without creating a modification to the SCA construct and ru...

Oral tradition is a wonderful thing. Then again, according to the Oral traditions or even certain written Saga's such as Beowulf, we would have to allow people to play Grendle (I nominate Rhys http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif based on his recent SCA knighting Order #). The most logical doc...

"I can respect that you are "tournament oriented". Great.! I like tournaments too, Pas in particular. But why not experience the breadth of combat possibilities?" >Sure, if you can find a logical way to do it without screwing the SCA up more than it already is. Other groups do this, but other groups...

Feel free to drool Cheval, my squire has that suit in spring steel by Mac, with exchange pieces for the joust. Now get ready to be sick: It is on a stand in his hall, he won't fight in it because he is concerned it will be damaged and he does not like riding anymore, so he will NEVER ride in it. Mem...

Back again. Head games are a big part of a winning strategy. I usually don't bother to do this enough, I am usually too busy having fun just going hell for leather into offensive nirvana, win or lose. But it does get me killed a lot. When you really want to win there are plenty of mental games you c...

LOL Sarnac! Remember Your Excellency (Rhys), just because we Easterners are paranoid, does not mean no one is out to get us. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif I understand the Mongols are invading again. Hi Rhys. Hi Juliana. You both have a lot to contribute, though you don't agree on everything, which is fine. Could we perhaps avoid the personal slights and accusations and simply continue the discussion of the topic at hand? They detract from the excellent points you both make. And Rhys, she is agr...

Oh. Sorry. An example would be: You are an intermediate level fighter who is going to face an aged, but experienced, fat and self admitted out of shape knight. You appraise the situation. What is the environment? A large 25 X 25 foot list with ropes. The footing is firm, dry and flat with no obvious...

Why the sarcasm? What is your point? Can't you just say what you mean or do you really enjoy conflict for conflicts sake? OK. Good points. The question is: 1) The current structure and rules have good points and bad points. Should we do anything to try to fix the bad points? 2) If we do anything to fix the bad points, will it actually make the situation better or will it simply alienate people and create new problems? ...

In one on one lists, strategy is much like backgammon. It won't save you from the opponent who rolls double 6's in a given game. Sometimes luck, or a single blow at the beginning of the fight overcomes the best strategy. That being said, I firmly believe that all other things being equal, superior s...

If he does not, he should receive the same sanctions that he would receive for breaking any of the other rules. Are some kings or fighters jerks? Sure. Do they advocate breaking t...

Hi Sarnac. Excellent question. Let me start off with the following. The arguments are not the fault of any of the individuals that have posted on this topic. The fault lies with the SCA and those that sought to amend the rules to allow for warlike or war re-enactment and failed to do so in a logical...
