Re: Fun with Flails
Greetings all, Under direction of Master Padrig Earl Marshall of the East I have started making and testing flails based on the the rules set up by Ansteorra. We are playing with them at the Medieval Acadamy in Fall River on Friday nights. Initial results look good. Flails are period, are fun, and ...

That same thing happened this weekend at eastern crown. An Atzinger style shield was bounced becuase of it's lack of edging. The squire argued his case qouting the specific rules. The marshall was questioning the legaity of bucklers as well. In such an important event, I do believe the marshall has...

I should have mentioned: I attach the pommel using a lag bolt that extendes substantially into the grip (using a predrilled hole to avoid splitting and after wrapping the grip), which adds a bit of balancing weight as well. The sword weights shown are generally in line with my experience (for real o...

These are the harness requirements so far. 1) Absolutely no Asscrack-Baker helms - While SCA legal, they don't look like anything medieval. 2) No exposed plastic (with one concession)- If you must wear it for whatever reason, cover it. I can tolerate certain kinds of plastic lamellar, but blue barr...

Hi. It looks like I'll be at your Ducal challenge, but only to Marshal as I'ss still be in the arm cast. Are you going to have voiders there? I'd like to get a look at those as I need some. It did not look like stainless was an option for those on the website. Is it? Richard Blackmoore Sir Richard-...

Nice. E-Mail with questions sent as I did not see a phone number on your website. If these are based on any historical pieces, could you post the pictures for reference? I have friends interested, some of whom don't mind generic/close to historical, others who want/need fairly accurate reproductions...

4) No white sneakers or exposed white socks - One of my pet peeves in the SCA is crappy looking footgear. Faux turnboots are readily available for less than $100 and shoe covers are cheap and silly easy to make. I would prefer it that our members wear something that is medieval looking but I am wil...

I get it. It was simply my point to warn of possible unintended consequences. My daughter got her first suit of plate whan she was 8, so I do support those who love fighting and looking the part while doing it, regardless of gender. Joan D'Arc is a good choice. Tough, brave and wore decent armour. E...

Re: Best body armour?
What is the "best" body armour in your opinion, and why? 1. How is its flexibility? 2. How is its kidney/Rib protection? I'm looking to switch my body armour, and wanted to seek other, more knowledgeable opinions first. Thanks, Lucas Von Aych Whatever will cause people to target the torso...

The official temp for Poway said 96.6*F, but my car thermo said it was over 100*. Bouts were fought open visor because 1) There would be better visibility 2) Armoured combat with open visors is seen in Talhoffer and the Beauchamp Pageant 3) There was a gentleman's agreement between all combatants t...

Ya know, there's a fantasy then there's a reality. The fantasy is some perfect victorian ideal of chivalry that some of you will slit your wrists before you give up. Then theres the reality of a man standing in front of you with a weapon in his hands. Now, I dunno about you, but crying about that w...

Audax, I haven't replied as yet, as I've been thinking this over. . . it's what I do. I'm a thinker. Firstly, wow! Thank you for considering me amongst such goodly people and in the name of such a cause. I am truly honored. Now to the crux or my thinking: My gut reaction, always, is to shy away fro...

With all due respect, I can understand that it is difficult or too expensive for some fighters to find medieval footgear they feel safe and comfortable fighting in. Especially if they don't like turnshoes or other historically accurate footgear. I just had this conversation after Balfar's with HRM ...
