How practical is it to thrust (relative to slash) with a single handed sword from horseback? Obviously, you could use it as a (very short!) lance... but somehow I doubt the point matters at all in that case. Does it matter if the target is stationary? Thrusting from horseback is very effective, tha...

Too light and excessive can be hard to put into words or to get general agreement upon. Both are like porn. You know it when you see it, but try to explain why one picture is art and another is porn. In general my feeling is that if you get hit with a blow that would have hurt like hell or broken so...

Hang on! Before anyone gets the wrong idea, it's not like Jeff doesn't want your work Chris. He has 2 full harnesses on the books; since he schedules a year of production for each harness, any new work would have a delivery date of at least 2009. Neither of us will schedule work that far out as we ...

Re: How Hard Is Too Hard?
Just to get a feel for what other people think. My opinion, If you are damaging armor, you are more than likely hitting too hard. Now there is a lot of lee way with that claim. But as a general rule, I think it is valid. dissenting opinions welcome. I strenuously disagree. Given the poorly formed, ...

The good news is that despite not being as faithful to the dieting as I should, I'm at 20% bodyfat, bouncing between 210 and 213 pounds. Feeling stronger, feeling better, looking thinner. I actually fit into large T-shirts (a little tight in the shoulders, but not a bad thing) and some medium's in g...

You make some good points on the quality of men found in the SCA. However the Arthurian mythos does not in any way endorse the concept of knighting exotic personas from out of area non-chivalric cultures such as Inca's, Mayan's, American Indians, etc. This does not help your argument as a result. I...

Looping 'Opening web page' problems
If I try to access the second page of the How Friggin Cool Is That thread, it just loops forever trying to open the page. I've seen this before on the archive. Is there something wrong with that page or is there a problem with my system's accessing it properly?

I hope this isn't a hijack of this thread... maybe we should start a new one? Seriously there are some concerns about balsa jousting that are legitimate. Our society bases its idea of knighthood on Arthurian idealism. You make some good points on the quality of men found in the SCA. Some of those you listed are truly inspirational. Despite my personal dislike of Ix's cat pajama armour, he is a good guy who works hard on behalf of the SCA. However th...

So it seems like the consensus is that adding vibram soles is not really worth it. My question is, can you still 'cut' side-to-side in turnshoes, or make quick steps forward and backward? I really like the look of turnshoes, and the idea of lighter footwear is definitely appealing, but I would plan...

I wear the Revival medieval shoe (really a boot in my opinion). It works great, though it is not really a turnshoe in construction. Also my vibram soles came off quickly, but gave good traction before they did. I find it much more comfortable to fight without having a heel, it feels more like martia...
