Sorry, I should have clarified. I was in a hurry when I replied. The part I don't like is the using of a butt spike and being able to hit with the cross guard on great swords. In melee I just see this causing nothing but issues and complaints. People have a hard enough time recognizing some shots a...

Worst idea ever. It would cause nothing but issues in battle. Seriously, why do you feel that way (unless you mean using double axe heads as quillons, in which case I agree with you)? Being able to hold your own sword blade has strong historical precedence. From a safety point of view, it is in man...

Also, it ain't German but I've definately seen multiple depictions of hungarians wearing gothic-style harness in the late 15th century with that general type of shield. I don't think shields ever went away, they were always the cheapest way to protect a low level soldier. There are some Italian paintings that show footsoldiers with shields, c1460-1490, and they do not appear to be pavises, either in form (large oval), or function. I'll try to remember to look for ...

It is pure theater and not at all authentic. German Foot Combat Shields 1480-1499
OK. So I'm getting late 15th century German 'Gothic' Armour, think simplified Sigusmund style. For foot combat 1500 or later, there are plenty of woodcuts and other illustrations, in particular of Maximillian I using infantry shields on foot with a sword, but the armour is clearly circa 1500 or late...

Got one of the new ones from Hal (TherionArms) and used it Saturday with Jeff Wasson in a "look how easy and safe it is to fight with steel!" demo for the MSR. (Actually, he used it, because I'd rather be hit with the lighter sword!) It works beautifully - much lighter and more flexible t...

The Galiot's armor in the Met (1527) has an armet, so the period you are looking at should have them available as well. Hello James. Shot from the hip, a few thoughts: jousting armour and field armour from about 1450 on were two different kinds of beast. A Sallet is not a Rennhut. And there were many different kinds of equestrian tournaments with different goals, which in turn required different lances, lance tips, ...

Squire's Mac Armour in Newsday Article
This is my squire's Mac harness in spring steel, it appeared in today's Long Island NY Newsday in an article. Link below. The article has some errors, but they are on the part of the reporter, not my squire. It is based on the Warwick effigy, so may be of interest given the threads recently.
