I respectfully disagree with Logan on this issue and have told him why in other lists and on other posts, though I see his points. In summary for those that have not heard it: 1) Real knights wore armour on both arms, not one, historical armour was symetrical in almost all cases in terms of area of...

Ah yes, the early SCA, before religion was tossed aside and replaced with ninja's, vampires, Tuchux and pirates... Though they did have elves Ah yes, the early days, before the freon tanks were replaced by sticks up the asses of several notables. I dont understand why you must continually be disres...

Richard, Thanks for the props but I just fought in my first melee in over two years (I have had four knee operations since the last time) so I have a ways to go before I am going to be a effective melee fighter again (I was one twenty plus years ago but then I discovered tourneys). There is no "of ...

For the most part I talk about breeds or crosses I think generally make good choices based on typical temperment, suitability to the type of performances and work, sturdiness and appearance. In that order. Why? Because if the horse is a nutjob, it does not matter. But I will agree as we've said in p...

I find myself wondering now... From here on out, everytime I run into a female fighter, do I have to ask if they're pregnant before fighting them? Effingham I don't. I assume my opponents are both healthy enough and also do not have any special conditions such as pregnancy (you are still healthy ev...

hi there! I´m sorry that you got all those answers of people trying to tell you what´s best for you, while you just had an armour question.... My opinion (as if this would be important) is: I wouldn´t fight her SCA heavy. But this isn´t what we´re talking about, right???? we´re talking about ...

My take on the above exchange: While some may view it as "a woman's choice" (and it most certainly is), the reason to yield is based on what the opponents view is.. and it certainly has little to do with the _womans_ health if they are declining to fight on the basis that she is pregnant, and every...

My rereplies prefixed with #'s. [cut as the point by point is growing huge and overlong] Obviously we fundamentally disagree on what is respectful, what is safe, and what is your opponent's right/responsibility. I feel, as several other people have also suggested, that to attempt to usurp your oppo...

My rereplies prefixed with #'s. That is not what I said. What I meant was that having minors in the list (say a 10 year old kid) is something we don't allow for safety reasons, even if they want to be there and make the choice. Allowing a baby/fetus in the lists is worse in my opinion as they are ev...

When running on unfamiliar ground, you should check the course first before any horses run, regardless of what's on their feet. I always have and we did at this joust also (I was on ground crew). The metal bar was buried underground just below the surface and was undetectable by normal means. It wa...

Jousting - To Shoe or not to Shoe
I'm interested in hearing from people on both sides of this issue, without name calling. I'm looking for facts, examples from your own experiences and informed opinions so I can examine whether my position on this should be modified or relaxed. I'm a big believer in having shoes on horses in general...

And what would make a frogmouth different? If you are saying that you need to raise your chin/lift the helm to protect your eyes then it makes more sense to have to do that in a helm that does not have the incepent (sp) lip that a frogmouth does. Either way, tilting the frogmouth back doesn't work....

It is interesting that King Duarte's treatise on horsemanship is quoted extensively in the same book ( Tournaments. by Barber and Barker, pp. 200 - 204). He says over and over again that "I do not think you can hit on target if you cannot see", "men often fail to score a hit for lack of sight', "ma...

As for frogmouths and tilting forward and back...I was going by pg30-31 of Osprey's Elite #17 'Knights at Tournament' and detailed information on pg 157 of Barber & Barker's 'Tournaments' both of which support my stance in very great detail. Written by academics repeating a view held since the Vict...

Re: I am gettin sick of buying new pants!
Guys, I have been covering up my knee and leg armor (with pants) for about six months now. I am getting tired of replacing the pants that I cover them with because the knees get holes in them from fighting on my knees. I need to know what the folks here who fight on a regular basis use. What kinds ...

Re: SCA: New Rules and their effect on us in Lochac
In not a fan of SCA combat archery and only reason I don't actively and aggressively pursue having it banned other than that I don't have any free time to do it (I'd rather get back into fighting), is that in recent years they have finally eliminated many of the things about it that I felt were seri...

With due respect to Vitus, it is not the knight's job to give the populace what they want. It is our job to give them what they need. A very important difference. Centrist and moderate views are often the most popular, that does not make them correct. It is our duty as knights to do the right thing....

I've fought Sir Kief many times, and I can guarantee you, he NEVER goes to his knees. He can't...he only has 1. He sits on his butt and then you are in TROUBLE.
