OK... Now that I am done laughing my ass off. 1) I was kind of kidding and I am sorry that I offended people so badly. I should have included a smiley. 2) The basis for some of my joking comments from the latter post, were based unfortunately somewhat on reality. As Gavin pointed out, there was a ti...

Why should an LH person participate in the SCA? #1. The sheer volume of SCA combattants needing armour, heavily contributed to the US reproduction medieval armour market that now exists. Many higher end armourers that no longer do as much with the SCA, started making armour for the SCA or at least m...

Fighting is fighting. Nope fighting is fighting. Fencing is an interesting thing to do that sort of resembles non-contact fighting at times, when they are not busy pressing their 18th century lace or auditioning for the death scene from Macbeth. Combat archery is definitely not fighting, though it ...

Much as kingdoms often augment SCA rules and equipment minimums. b) Implemented rules and guidelines via kingdom law to eliminate any face...

Any fighter hurting another fighter on purpose to put a notch on his belt, is worse than an idiot. He deserves to have his card yanked and be banned from the SCA. For hurting a Lady on purpose, fighter or not, he ought to have his balls cut off. I hope this isn't a real issue, few fighters I know ar...

1) Cost. The more elaborate the harness, the more costly. 2) Maintenance. Fancy armour with more pieces often take longer to repair damage on as the forms and shapes are more complex. While a fluted gothic pierced breastplate can be harder to dent in the first place, once it does dent it is a bitch ...

The acclaim of one's peers and the judges as the unquestioned victor in the day's contest is the best prize. An actual prize token in the form of a scroll or small ornamental item are good ways to recognize this.
