Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)
Well oops on that. I had a newspaper article done on my job recently and she was fascinated by my hobby and added the SCA info link in the article.
That's just silly. It's a great avenue to get the word out.

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)
It would be hard to make changes to a cliquish group if your ostracized.
It's easy to say that you should stand up. A little harder to do. You have to decide if you want to be at the end of someone making your Society life Hell.

Well it stinketh. You can't learn if you don't get a chance. A Shire up north not only welcomed my request to volunteer but invited me to a training meeting and made me feel like I'd been a part of the group since it was founded. It was SO awesome.

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)
The cliques are hard to get past. The bigger the group even harder. I tend to hang out with others outside those cliques. Recently I tried different avenues to volunteer at an event. Got no response. But one of the group members was able to put me in contact with someone. How do you ignore someone t...

You should take this link back to the GC list. I think its something the members really need to be reading. Wonder if the link should be sent to the BoD. Although after I read that they weren't likely to read all the comments from the Census I'm quickly losing hope in them.

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)
I concur on the mini event! This way you get to mingle with folks in a different way than you do at fighter practice and the group gets to know you and share the things they do in love in the SCA. That will in turn light the fire to go to other events. Plus Your populace will also enjoy the mini eve...

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)
I think it's great that you try to contact them. When I first started I only went to fighter practice. It was because of the unknown factor at what happens at an event. It was quite awhile before I worked up the courage to go. I think having something along the lines of what to expect at your first ...

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)
I understand the outsider part. I was fighting with a local group regularly and thought I was a part of it. Got a sad awakening when I got hurt really bad at practice and not one of them contacted me to see if I was okay except the Knight I had been fighting who was my mentor at the time. Of course ...

Thanks everyone. Exactly the information I was looking for. I did not realize the high importance of the core muscles. I'll pass this on to my trainer and physical therapist.

I have to be careful of my knees. I was going to use your treadmill info and transfer it to the gym bike and maybe my riding bike. Then when I get the muscles around my knees built up nice and strong move to jogging.

Thank you for the treadmill routine. The 1st Blood sounds cool. Re: Training, Practice and Evaluation
Thanks for the example! That's sort of what I am trying to figure out. Then I need to come up with sone ...

Dang! That's some harsh fighting. If it was me I'd have helped the guy that fell. Or is that not a good thing. Is there a point where someone would say it isn't safe to fight in those conditions? I mean for what we do since we aren't really trying to hurt the other guy. The way the guy on brown fell...

I bet they could easily address that part since our 'cup' area is set up different. I'll wait to see if he sees the further replies and see what he says about the chestical issues.

Thank you Thor. I was reading earlier discussions about gym work being important to training too. I also read that going to various practices was a good thing, but I was curious as to how many others did this too.

Training, Practice and Evaluation
