Re: Rethinking bedding for camping events
I never did any planning besides estimating linear footage of dimensional board length, quantity and square footage of plywood. Since it's just a couple of open sided-boxed with legs at or near the corners off-set from each other so they nest. Then it was cobbled together as I went along. It origina...

Re: Rethinking bedding for camping events
I sleep single, and built a pallet box. Still not light, but it holds all of the bed stuffs except for the tack. It's basically a shipping crate that gets me off of the ground but doesn't allow air to flow under me. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4095/4802488276_cf3e375c9e_m.jpg http://farm5.static....

Re: Thoughts on canvas non period tents?
If nothing else, this thread has made me question why a person of my station should have a $1600 double bell tent. I'm not even a man-at-arms and I certainly don't share the tent with 10 other people. I remember some extreamly cold and miserable nights in civil war shelter halves, but that was all p...

Re: Thoughts on canvas non period tents?
I'm just being snarky because of the "It's okay for a SCAdian, but I wouldn't cought dead in one of those" type of attitute that is pervading the thread. But the reality is that if you were in a civil war reinactment group you would sleep in your shelter halves and snuggle up to the random...

Kult of Athena has a Crecy war sword (44" long) for $775, 44.25". I would consider Albion a good sword. Personally, I don't even want to cut paper with it. (My gf is a sexy goddess, but I don't even let her touch the Albions). If you keep an eye out on myarmoury, Trims and Tinkers come up ...

Re: Thoughts on canvas non period tents?
For real authenticity, most of us (non-dukes & kings) wouldn't actually have a tent to ourselves. We should just be huddled together with only our armour and cloaks between us and the stars. Or sleeping 8-10 people (including knights, squires, men at arms) in a 10 x 15' tent.

Re: Thoughts on canvas non period tents?
Are those teepees/sibleys or are they possibly just badly drawn wagon wheel pavilions with sloping walls? The fact that they have a cone seperating the top from the sides (indicated by a horizontal line) tells me that they are just roughly-drawn pavillions.

If you bought the flat ring stainless riveted links from Ice Falcon, they are already pre-punched, and come with rivets. I prefer to use 16 ga. wire rather than trying to peen those tiny rivets. I nip off about 3-4mm of 16 ga galvenized picture wire available at all hardware stores. It's easy enough...

Yes. It sounds like a good summer project. I've got my eye on some durable decorative washers. I may play with some cardboard plate patterns in the near future. I've come to realize that with a mail haubergeon coming down on the hips, I may not need the cuisse plates to come up so high, and that cou...

Re: Horizontal Cuisse Plates
I think there have been a couple of threads discussing the likelyhood that mid 14th century fabric cuisses with studs are most-likely the same plate arrangement, due to the similarity between nail patterns on coats of plates. Yet most of us tend to make vertical splints or the nails simply hold a cl...

Re: What are the evil new eBay rules/fees?
I think the fees for eBay auction items, rather than 'buy it now' fixed price items, tend to hover around 12.25% to 13.0% of the item when you figure in paypal. All auctions default to paypal payments, and most people make use of it due to the fact that they can use credit cards and get the money ba...

Re: Dyeing leather ?
If you leave the leather plain, not only will it have a greater tendancy to crack or mold, it also will stain very easily from incidental contact with fingers, greasey food, water, metal. etc. And will become irreversibly blotchy or mottled (which probably would not in any way look good). When dyed ...

I just got a sword shipped to me in a heavy double or triple-walled box. I think the seller said he got the box from Albion. It is about 47" long, 11" wide and 5" deep. It has foam for retaining the hilt in place. and foam at the point end. The box weighs about 5 lbs. I would calculat...

Does anyone have information about the daggers called an analace/anelace/aunlaz/anlace? Arms and Armor has a replica of one that is attributed to the Royal Armories, and their write-up says that the term was for a short dagger of English origin used primarily in the 14th century. But in use as early...

It's not my sword and I have no financial interest, but I recently purchased a sword from Gary Graley who has an Albion Sword St. Maurice of Turin (retail $1,725), and he's letting it go for $1,350 (That's $375 in savings and no wait for manufacture). I know everyone is feeling the economic crunch, ...

Re: Thoughts on canvas non period tents?
The short side-walls are not period. The conical shape (even if it didn't have side-walls if it looked like a teepee) is also debatably do not have a medieval analog. Though techinically, unless your tent is made of hemp or linen canvas, it's not a faithful "period" european medieval tent....

I am not some great proponent of soulpads, but I still have yet to see anyone show me an off-the shelf tent that is canvas and less than the soulpads. All of the examples of cheap "period" pieces exclude the posts, ground-cloth, ropes, and stakes. My double bell wedge (of similar size as t...

Re: Armed to the teeth (SCA).
Sheathed swords are a problem as they can block leg shots. Back-up weapons tend to be smaller and less likely to interfere with shots especially if they are in the small of your back or on your shield side. If you get hit in your weapon, you should take it as a good hit, since gauging telling blows ...

Oooh that is so nice. I really do not need another big chest though.
I may have to unplug the internet when that goes up for sale to resist.
The shape is similar to this chest from Germany (15th c) but yours has better ironwork.

Deepeeka and it's associate distributors sell some lanterns that are commonly referred to as "roman" replicas. In an old article of Dragon (#9 from the companie of Saynt George) one of the pages, there are two drawings (slide H #28 and #29) which the article identifies as being examples of...
